Lucky you Kell! I would love to be the first to see the new arrivals!
My boss at the nursery showed me some lovely Vrieseas from the Kiwi collection (V. 'Kiwi Sunset' e.t.c) and I was so jealous. I told him to always buy two of everything nice and then I will buy one off him for a bit extra for his trouble. He seemed surprised but readily agreed, so heres hoping I can get something special now and then.
No new broms for me of late. I just haven't seen anything that takes my fancy.
We have had some sever flooding this past week, and I will be very busy in the next couple of months cleaning up the garden. Most of the broms seem to be untouched, but a couple might have suffered damage due to oil in the storm water. Time will tell.
Make sure you tell me if you get anymore, and i will do the same for you!
Sue
Anyone know the name of these?
I will have to google Vrieseas from the Kiwi collection to see them. They sound so pretty. I hope you get some good ones. So you work at a nursery? I would go broke wanting everything that came thru.
These are so hyper colored and patterned they are spoiling me from any of the usual ones. They are so very pretty! I need to find a way to display them. I do not thave the room you do to have tables. I wish I could figure a way to hang them on the posts of my porch but they need to hang on a slant so the leaves are not damaged.
The new ones are still in their sleeves hidden in the back yard. Yesterday I went to a cactus and succulent show and when I got home my husband was already here and we left for dinner in San Francisco. He is going to be so unhappy when he sees them all. I do not think I will be getting anymore for a long, long time. No room and I have already shown myself to be such a plant pig, I am so very greedy.
So you had flooding from rains? Why is there oil in the water? Sounds bad. DID all yourplants in your garden get hurt?
HI Kell, you naughty plant pig! he he. I've been trying to think of ways for you to hang your broms, but haven't come up with anything yet. Maybe you could start a new thread asking for ideas?
I work at a massive wholesale nursery every friday, mostly weeding (I'm very good at it) and ocasionally working with the broms, dividing and seperating them for others to pot up. The boss has been collecting broms for about 40 years, and has a fabulous collection, but they are neglected and screaming out for me to take them home and nurse them. I once asked him if i could buy the odd one off him, but he said he would rather swap, and i don't think i have anything he hasn't already got, to swap with. But I live in hope that he will share his contacts with me so that I can purchase from them. He has given me the occasional plant, so that keeps me coming back. Its a nice place to work and he has some spectacular broms. I will take my camera with me, not this week (its Easter) but next.
The oil in the storm water is due to garages being flooded. It was quite severe and lots of homes were damaged. We were quite lucky really, so I'm thanking my lucky stars.
This pic is looking from the front veranda. Some of the gardens went under and the garage was 3" deep in water, but nothing was lost (yet) The mulch was washed away in places, but can be replaced.
I hope you don't get into too much trouble with hubby! What if you send him on a fishing expidition for a week so you can display your plants? he he
