My daughter had a shirt when she was little with red buttons all over it, they would come up and stick their beaks into the button holes. She still talks about it.

I have this nectar feeder for the orioles. They seemed to really like it. The perches are adujsutable for different orioles. I will be putiing it out very soon. The apple tree is getting buds on it.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

yah, but did you read that it was in 1934. Probably didn't know better then. I think honey ferments too much

Saw my first male ruby-throat yesterday and he's back today. Probably just passing through, but so glad to see one. When the females arrive, I'll know they are here to stay. I took a couple pics, but they are too blurry. I was so excited, I didn't focus the camera, argh!

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Whoo Hooo! Saw my first male ruby throat this morning! And what a handsome fella he was ...

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Are we supposed to really believe all those on there yesterday?

I honestly find it hard to believe that any are up here in Northern Illinois. There's really nothing blooming yet.

South Hamilton, MA

Right--which hummers are Cubs fans.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

The learner.org site only shows one in northern Illinois.

Maybe it was a joke and they forgot to update.

Gainesville, FL(Zone 9a)

I got one!!!! o wow, I was just having such and irritating moment and there it was. OK, so it was a female, no ruby throat. I dont care one bit. Off to make some fresh nectar. Camera on the ready.

Im feedking them good. This time of year I put an almost 2-1 mixture. Its been back this morning, it keeps picking the same seat and eats for awhile. Im going to have to turn the feeder a bit to try to get a better picture if he is going to keep taking that perch.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

he maybe picking that one because he feel safe in that position
you can try to turn it but he may just end up on another one lol picky picky picky little guy

Dixon, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi !
haven't been able to be on here for awhile. I saw my first oriole last year on May 1. i offered a nectar feeder first but it was sooooo funny because they could not figure out how to get to the nectar so then i bought a jelly feeder with two orange spikes. they did eat oranges from the patio for awhile but what they came for was the grape and apple jelly. i had them for the whole summer last year. they are so pretty to see and listen to. My hubby got a couple great pics of them but not sure how to put it on here. Cant wait till the hb come around. since i will have to stop feeding the birds this summer i think i can still swing feeding jelly and sugar water. plus i cant wait for the butterflies.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Gosh they are so close!!

We are supposed to get 50mph winds tomorrow the poor guys may just get blown here!

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

I'll have to put a heater in the feeder next week, hope they stay south for awhile longer.
