MG on CD rack

Aschaffenburg, Germany

Last year, I bought CD racks in the local European supermarket a dollar each. The turned out to be good supports for MGs grown in pots. Here is a purpurea that seemed quite happy and I took it inside for a couple of weeks to enjoy its flowers...

Here is what could be called a morning glory scaffold, house our lamp....I asked a Moroccan friend of mine, who is a blacksmith, to make me this lamp. I wanted four bars to grow 4 different types of MGs inside and get some stunning colour effects, but I realized too late that we couldn't fit the pot it.

So we decided to cut out one bar out...

Future versions of this lamp may have a door...
I started sowing my first seeds today...and will keep you posted with this one...

Once these MGs bloom, I may take "the lamp" inside the house and attach candles...Low and behold I hope the MGs won't catch fire or get toasted...

I will be experimenting a lot with such trinkets this year...

Here is an update on the Morning Glory lamp...

As most of my plants dwarfed they won't be climbing a lot on this lamp I figure, I was thinking of ripping everything out and starting afresh...but now I don't have the heart to do it and will be content to see many tiny plants...

There is a also a bean and nasturtium in the pot.

the architecture on the metal is good enough it wont look bad at all, as matter of fact there could be a bonus with the contrast between the growth, especially any blooms against the darkness of the (iron?) metal...it'll look nice climbing or not~! I am using old baby crib siding someone tossed out this year~! It is encouraging sideways growth of the vines which is neat.

Martin - I agree with Darren! The lamp looks great with the dwarfs in it! I'd let them live a nice life in that pot! I would NOT ripped them out of there! :-)

I love that lamp and that mg plant.. please please don't rip it out I couldn't bear it..
I love original ideas and love the fact that you have an open and creative mind..

Thanks Debra and Becky...The morning glories are really taking off now...Perhaps some dwarfs will decide to grow, who knows...life is full of surprises...
