Ok, I have found the identity of the shrub I have in my yard and would like to plant more. If I plant the seeds that come out of the fruit will they grow? I have searched everywhere and can't find anything about planting them from seeds. Everything says they are invasive and seeds are spread by animals but I don't have any new ones growing and the birds eat them like crazy. Any suggestions or ideas?
This is the shrub name: Thorny elaeagnus and a photo of the berries
Thanks in advance..
Jamie

Hi: I'm not familiar with your shrub since it isn't hardy for my zone 4. However, judging from your photo, the fruit isn't ripe enough to sow yet. It should be somewhat shriveled. When any seeds are ripe enough, the stem that holds the seed usually turn from green and looks like it is dead. The reason is that the plant locks off any nutrient to that stem to save energy for the rest of the plant.
Here is a seed germination data base where you may find the information you are looking for.
