Spring Roundup-4/25

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Hey BB. How are you? Just checking in...

Lula, GA(Zone 7b)

Same question BB. I know it's tough to take it easy when you're a gardener and spring is here. I hope you are mended.

I'm well everyone. Thanks for asking

The treatment has really worked and all the symptoms are gone. One of the medicines makes me eat like crazy but after this course I should be done with it.

My little dog is trying to kill me though. Caused me to slip last week and I hurt my knee. Then when I was resting the next day, he comes into the house, takes a running leap on jumped right on it.

Getting veggies out of the gardens finally. We had some spinach to die for

Working on a special project. Might have some nice news to share with those of you close to the Lawrenceville area

Good to know you are up and around BB. I had my first spinach with arugula I got from Maypop last year . That, in a big salad with lettuce and green onion , cilantro , boiled egg and diced, grilled chicken breasts . Just had the last of it for breakfast . All you guys have really inspired me to grow some good stuff . That strawbale gardening forum has put me onto a whole different way of growing things . BB, what can I use to keep bugs off my greens ? digger

good to hear you are doing well BB.

What kind of bugs. If they are snails, you have to use diatomenous earth (sp?). I use neem oil for all other kinds

I'm out to buy some neem oil . Never used it , but getting holes in spinach and don't want licey looking bugs on turnip greens . I'll leave them in the ground first . Thank you so much . digger

Okay, What is neem oil , and how long after using it,is safe to eat vegetables? I use DE and so far Ive no problem with varmits, but I am starting to see tiny holes in potato leaves!

Lawrenceville, GA(Zone 7b)

Neem oil is an extract of the Neem tree.

I usually use it as a preventative measure when crops are first planted. I have pretty much stopped spraying when it's time to harvest.

Thanks very much BB. that answered my questions and more! Organic and seems to be very effective for controlling insects and certain plant diseases too!

Do you know what's eating them?

BB

Because BB grows organic , I hoped he (you) would tell me what you use . I would never have found it on my own . A man gave us some collards several years ago and they were eat up with some kind of lice looking bugs . No holes, but the underside of them was just crawling . I've always been afraid to plant them . Always just bought them and wondered how they kept them bug free . digger

Digger:

They are harmless Digger. I had them one year and a thorough rinsing gets them off. You may have to do several soaks to make sure you get them all

But the greens are fine

We always soaked our greens in a salt water solution then rinsed. Took those little critters right off. They are a type of Aphid I think.

Just found this , wonder why it didn't come up on my home page . digger
