Useful Tip: How to Type the Degree Symbol ° in a Post

Hey, a girl can dream .... it's back down to 1°C anyway....sigh

It's actually just warmed up today for the first time in awhile, and will get warmer tomorrow, and stay warm (well, not Hawaii warm!) until Monday, when we go back to the deep freeze. But tomorrow and Friday we'll get lots and lots of rain, to wash away the dirty snow. I have a feeling there's lots more snow to come this winter, we're just getting an early taste of chilly, rainy days until we go back to it.

We could use some rain down this way ... very dry here. My city is almost 4" below normal rainfall, and some areas of the state are even worse. There have been a couple of wild fires here in central Florida the past week but no damage to property that I've heard of, thank goodness. We've been under red flag fire warnings off and on the past month. Hopefully we will begin to get some spring rains before long.

(sigh) enjoy your rain Christine, it's gonna be -8 here and your rain will give us oodles of snow.

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

I really envy the TN Tropics. I won't see a day like you are going to get there today for at least 2-3 months.

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

It's a balmy 75° here...I wish! Thanks for this great and useful tip!

Just a reminder that folks from all over the world use Dave's Garden so it's very important to add which scale you are using: °F or °C. That way whoever is reading knows what temp you're talking about and if they are unfamililar with the scale, they can use a temp converter found on the web to change the temp to the scale they know. The USA is really the only country that uses °F. The rest of the world uses °C. (:o)
Thanks,
Mike

It was 38° here last night in North Dakota!

We have the same kind of cold here in VT. Tonight it may dip down to 32° at my house. Growing Hoyas here is challenging to say the least.

Wow, Doug! This is June and y'all might have temp's at freezing?! Amazing! I bet it is a challenge to grow tropical plants in your area! We've had many days in the mid 90's already and nights in the mid 70's. These high daytime temp's are a sign of what July, August and September are going to be like I'm afraid! Today has been stormy and raining, right now it's a pleasant 77ºF.

I'll try to send some of our Florida heat your way ... oh, and if anyone needs rain we have plenty of that to share too! We had awful floods here two weeks ago, rained for 7 or 8 straight days ... my city had 21" but other area's had even more. I stuck a 5 gal bucket outside one day and in 24 hours we had 9" of water in that bucket! We are thankful to be on high ground and didn't have any flooding ... many folks had a foot of water in their homes! Daytona Beach is only about 8-9' above sea level so when it rains like that there's no place for the water to go.

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 5a)

Send some rain up this way! This was the 3rd driest May on record (since the 1890's, yes, 1890's, not 1980's (:o)). We *may* get some rain this weekend - if we're lucky! I am not holding my breath.

We were in a drought situation with fire watches for a few months, praying for rain ... our prayers were answered and then some! Tropical Storm and Hurricane season began June 1st, hope we don't get any major systems for awhile ... need to dry out first!

By using the ALT key + 'Numbers on the (activated) number pad you can type out any character that has been mapped out for the particular font your using. Access to these characters goes back to the early days of the PC and DOS. In versions of Windows now in use you can see and access all the characters available in any given font by opening the "Character Map". This is fount by [Start] -> [Accessories] -> [System Tools] -> "Character Map". To have easier access to this App. you can just drag the icon from the start menu onto the Desktop.

The Character Map has a drop-down box to select any of the fonts installed on your PC. This immediately displays all the characters available. Clicking on any symbol will show a larger sample. The Map also allows you to copy any character(s) to the clipboard to paste in any application. Also when you click on a character the Keystroke combination (the ALT + numbers) for the selected character is shown at the bottom right.. The full character set for any major font is rather extensive. If your not familiar with it, you may be surprised by what you can type out. For example:

© ± ¶ Æ § † ‰ ‡ ™ ¥ £ ¢

For those using an iMac, to get the º symbol, hold down the option key and then press the zero key at the top of the keyboard. The ")" is right above the zero key. Macs don't have all of the symbols that PC's have, but the most common symbols can still be made on an iMac.

WOW , thanks.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

¡ ™ £ ¢ ∞ § ¶ • ª º
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0

neat... alt + the number = the symbol above on a Mac. Now if I only knew what more than half of them were FOR! :)

Montgomery, AL

81º today. Neat. Need a mathematician to decipher those symbols above!
