. . . well he is! He is a very lovely man - and he can carry on an intelligent conversation that does not include sports.

You know - I must be the only person of my generation who grew up on the west coast and has a clear memory of the 1970s . . . .
I left home when I was 16 and knew that no cop or social worker would force me back home as long as (1) I was self-supporting, e.g. had a job and paid taxes; (2) I didn't become pregnant; (3) I attended school; (4) didn't drink or take drugs.
I was the token sober person at every party when everyone I knew was either hammered on Singapore Slings or stoned on hallucinagenics. I didn't notice that either condition improved anyone . . . though maybe one has to be in the same condition to appreciate the "conversation."
Good for you. I was always the one to watch out for everyone else too. Never could get what the thrill of head spinning, can't control yourself, and getting loaded on whatever the substance of choice was at the time just to get to the point that you couldn't remember all the fun you had. Makes no sense to me at all. Had a good time telling everyone else what total fools they made of themselves though. :)
could have used either of you as a designated driver
