I recently found a few brown hemisphere things about 2 millimeters across, on my baby Meyer lemons. I don't think these were on it when they came in for winter. But maybe. I thought they were a scale but when I scraped one off for a picture it looks like eggs under it. What do you think? The lemons have been in the basement under lights. Only bugs seen anywhere there are spider mites, and a stink bug has been here.
CLOSED: eggs? under a small brown scaly thing on lemon tree
This appears to be a hemispherical scale insect, such as Saissettia coffeae, a common pest on indoor plants - see http://tinyurl.com/afmyxs for an image of one with the egg mass exposed. Meyer lemons reportedly are quite susceptible to scale insect infestation.
Thank you!
