At work we have this somewhat small pothos plant that is actually several feet long but they have it circling around the basket. It doesn't have many leaves. I keep looking at it and thinking that if I could cut it in sections and root it that it can be about 20 plants easily and that the new smaller plants will produce more leaves. I was just wondering if the cutting can be put directly back into the soil to root or if they have to go into water to root first.
Any suggestions out there? I sure don't want to mess it up. I just have a hard time looking at the poor thing in the condition it is in.
Thanks,
Angel
Cutting Pothos
Karma is right, it isn't cruel..It is beneficial to the plant, it will promote more sprouts coming up from the roots. Now is the perfect time to take cuttings.
Cool,
I have one I started from a cutting from my Sister (we call it Devil's Ivy, and my Mom calls it Philodendron).
And it just keeps growing in one long straight line. Maybe I should cut mine up too.

I don't know why, but once these plants lose a leaf they don't grow a new one in that spot like many other plants do. It's just a bare spot. You need to cut back to the last leaf. I've done this often with good results.
Thanks for the help. Now to convince them at work to let me cut it up, LOL! I'll keep you informed on the different faces I get when I ask.
