Germination Time

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I started a bunch different annuals the last week and it is really fun when you have a quick germinator. This is the 1st time I sowed Stocks - Ten Weeks Dwarf. They germinated with in 48 hours. On the other hand I'm getting impatient with the impatiens, only 5 germinated so far. I may have the tray too warm with bttm heat.

Joanna, how are those impatients doing? I looked the germination info up, 70º to 75º bottom heat and 14 to 21 days for germination, and under bright lights.
I usually start mine in March and have flowers before I set them out end of May.

Looking better every day. Tempo Impatiens - I see a bunch of seeds that are just starting to sprout. The cells at either edge of the tray germinated so far, so I think with the heat under was too warm 29ºC or 84ºF. I turned off the heating pad and it is night 20ºC and day 25ºC or 77ºF . The light fixtures give off a fair amount of heat. There are about a dozen at 2 leaf stage and about 20 that will be at that stage by Sunday. No sign of anything for the New G. Tango.

Dichondra Emerald Falls are up, but not Silver Falls. Licorice is up, which have the iddist biddiest leaves. The Alternanthera purple knight was the 1st to germinate - sowed Feb 1 picture

Those look good! If you can, could you add seedling pictures to Plant Files. Everyone likes to show off the blooms but not many pictures of seeds and seedlings. It adds value to Plant Files. And it is sort of a pet project of mine. lol

Oh! making a mental note to myself "Add F to my temps"

Me too ladygardener, and thank you Joanna! I photograph all my seeds and seedlings and send them to plantfiles. I always say I'm on a mission to stamp out childhood NOIDs in my lifetime. LOL

Perhaps this will help! I have had this bookmarked for a while. Glad I can help someone!

Wow - that's a great reference site, Gita! Thanks!!

I also like to see seedling pics on PlantFiles. I find it useful as well as interesting. It also allows you to contact the person who posted the picture and get more info on how it was germinated, etc.

Beautiful seedlings, Joanna!

Gita, wow, that's a great site. Thanks so much. Just browsing DG today and I've found answers to several of my seed questions, and now this excellent reference.
