Today's History Fact, interesting

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

1884: John Hutton Balfour, Professor of Botany at Glasgow University, Scotland, died at Edinburgh. He was the keeper of the Royal Botanic Garden at Edinburgh and was instrumental in adding a palm house and arboretum before retiring. The California foxtail pine, Pinus balfouriana is named for him.

I could care less about the "proper" name for plants, I'd never be able to remember all my favorites. But here I thought plant names are derived from Latin words? And yet this plants proper name is after this teacher. Interesting.
