I have a bunch of Denise's cannon balls in my fridge from the last lily sale. Can I go ahead and plant them now or am I better off waiting until later. We are having a heatwave here in St Louise so the ground is soft enough to plant. Will they be alright or am I better off hanging on til next month? I really want to get this right, you should see these bulbs, they are gorgeous and I don't want to loose them.
Thanks

Lily advice needed
You want to put the bulbs in "as early as possible", but not so early that they won't begin growth. If you might still go into a cold spell where the surface of the soil might crust over and freeze (temporarily), then you should wait. If not, and the soil is well drained and not soppy, and won't be soppy when you water, then I think you could plant. Have you dug way down to see if the ground is completely thawed? If it is still frozen at any depth, I think it is too early.
Better to ere on the side of the "plant later scenario", than "plant earlier".
