starting corkscrew

Worcester, MA

Any advice on starting corkscrew vine seeds would be welcome. Time to germinate, temp, prep, etc. Thanks

Scarification and a warm water soak for about a day will get roots starting. Plant in good soil @ around 80 degrees.

I got a few seeds back in the summer and this worked great for me, but I had a problem with damping off. I think the solution is a quick dip in hydrogen peroxide, but I'm not sure.

Good luck!

That sounds about right. I started 5 seeds last year and according to my spread sheet they 'turned to mush' and I thought I had kept them too wet. I started 5 again this year the same way but kept them a little dryer and all 5 of them popped up beautifully.

I took this picture just a few days ago.

Thanks so much. I only have 3 seeds. How long did they take to pop Up? Do you recommend soaing them in H2) with some H202 in it? Did you put the pot in a plastic bag till they sprouted? How warm?

It took 6 days for the first three to sprout and the other 2 followed close behind. H2O2 wouldn't be a bad idea, but I didn't have any peroxide so I just used water. I wrapped them in a damp paper towel inside a baggie and set them by my heating register for a little over a day before planting. I did use a cover and heat, but my mat doesn't have a setting so all I can tell you is "warm."
