I never in a millon years thought I'd be able to get these going from seed,I've tried before, but here's my tiny babies sprouting like crazy.
Dodecatheon aka Shooting Stars. Seeds are from trade last year. I top a pot of moist seed starting mix with a layer of mid-grade vermucilite, sprinkled the seeds over the vermucilite, used a spray bottle to spritz the seeds in then put the pot in a zip lock bag and refrigerated 12/17/08. I took the pot/baggie out 1/31/09 placed it under light(no heat),bag still zipped and they started sprouting 2/1/09. Many more have sprouted to date as seen in picture so I have opened the baggie up slightly to start getting them use to the outside air.
Woo-Hoo! Shooting Stars!
Glad to see that you are successful. I have yet to try the outdoor method, but I am getting things organized!!!

These have yet to see the light of the great outdoors. They satrted their life in frig then out under a light in the house(no heat). As soon as they get a true leaf,it should be nice enough out side to ease them out into the un-heated lean-to then in a few weeks transferred to a shady bench in the un-heated big GH.
