should have known.....i'm smarter than that

Carrollton, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm so sorry to hear about your maters, angiegr. I think my greatest fear of gardening is disappointment, and you've got a greenhouse full today. Maybe this is just a good excuse to start some more seed to be ready by Spring?

Angiegr: Sorry about the loss of those maters, but at least you have plenty of time to start again.

BTW, my first name is Angie and the first two letters of my last name are gr. How cool is that?

greener: yeah, i'll be starting more tomato seeds this w/e, no biggie, but i do hate to see them sprout so nicely and then kill over...but, i know now that i will bring them in the house when we have a hard freeze....

Angie: yeah, same name, that's cool =) last name is green btw....
plenty of time...they'll sprout in no time again...at least i know i got good seeds to work with ....

Angie, I feel your pain. I winter sowed tons of seeds. I forgot and started zinnias and than forgot again and left them outside with the other ones. Totally dead little babies and they were doing great. We're just not use to 20 degree weather,

What are maters? oh, I'm am also sorry that you lost them - whatever they are . . .

Gastonia, NC(Zone 7b)

LOL! 'Maters are tomatoes. And there are also 'taters......... ;-)

But wow, how unfortunate to lose them after such a good start. Glad you still have time to get more going.......

. . . well, tators I knew . . . 'maters must be an American thing ^_^

Molino, FL(Zone 8b)

The same thing happened to me last year. I'm being more careful this time.

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

Seandor, you apparently haven't seen the movie Cars, either, eh? The tow truck is named Tow Mater, but just goes by 'Mater. He's red. ;o)

But I thought MA was an American thing ~ LOL Just teasing. Sometimes I know what it being talked about and still draw a blank.

I have a few different WS starts of maters and most have survived frosty nights. Only one type keeled over. Lost one type of cuke too but the others are doing well. I wonder if the stage of development makes the difference in sink or swim.

Gastonia, NC(Zone 7b)

I think it must do, Podster......

I am going to WS my maters late this week, I believe...... I'll be putting their containers outside during the tail end (I hope!) of the current series of winter storms...... They can get their experience of cold right away and then warm up later on. But I imagine seedlings that have started out in warmer conditions and suddenly get hit with a deep freeze would be in trouble.

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

Well,I used a different seed starting mix this year and I'm having the worst case of damping off and mold this year. Never again. If it ain't broke...don't fix it! Now I gotta start most of them again.

Sorry for your lose.

Oh bummer, bigred!

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

bigred, have you tried watering with a weak hydrogen peroxide mixture, or weak chamomile tea? Sprinkling cinnamon on the surface of the soil also helps. Just thought it might not be too late to salvage some of your hard work? I haven't had nearly the trouble with damping off once I started adding chamomile tea about once a week.

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

I can save a few but I'm pretty much going to have to re-sew alot.
