pots that attach to downspouts?

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

I picked up 7 pots at a yardsale and the pots are for made to attach to a rain gutter downspout. They are a bit flat or even concave on one side, with a plastic belt thing that wraps around.

I am using them to attach to the lattice wall of my patio and they look lovely with spinach, lettuce and scallions in them. And, I'd like some more, if they can be found and if they are not too expensive.

Any leads on these? I've tried to google on various keywords, to no avail.

Have you tried googling rain chains?

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Frausnow, no I hadn't. I didn't know what you were referring to, in fact, so I just now googled on "rain chains" -- and cool! Not at all what I was looking for, but my, they are pretty and intriguing. I'd love to see/hear one in action.

I should take a picture of what I'm looking for, but they are just like regular plastic plant pots (not connected to each other), and each has a little dip in one side to allow it to hug against a downspout and then a long plastic piece (strap or belt) that cinches around the downspout.

Hmmm, I guess maybe I could go back to where the yardsale was and ask the lady that sold them to me.

LiseP, when you find out let me know. You've got my curiosity up now. Don't think I've ever seen what you are referring to.

LiseP ~ are you attaching them to the downspouts? Wouldn't that flood your plants out in a 'for sure' heavy rain?

I found these, is this what you want?

Aha ~ sorry, my imagination was to attach to the drain... those are cute.

I've been looking for exactly what Cathy4 found since last year but they have been sold out everywhere. Now I can't open that link. Even if I try to go to the site straight from Google (rather than the link above), it aborts it...Is anyone else having that trouble?

Johnson City, TN(Zone 6b)

I couldn't get there either

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

I found them by googling downspot pots. I don't know why the link doesn't work for you, sorry.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

The link works fine for me--you might try again in case it was a temporary glitch.

North Pole, AK(Zone 1)

Nope. Trying again 24 hours later. Must be an IE issue. I get a pop up that says "Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site http://www.metromarket.com/079-507403.html. Operation aborted". And it closes it down.

I've tried going directly into Metro Market from two other computers (instead of through the link) and get the same message. Have never had that before...Guess IE is trying to get me to save my $$$...LOL

Yes, Cathy4, those are it! I'm having trouble getting into the site too, but thank you! At least y'all know I'm not making them up, lol.

Tubbytee, are you saying that if you switch to Mozilla Firefox you can get onto that site? Just curious.

I use Foxfire, too, and got straight through to the page. I wish they would have shown how they were secured to the downspout though. I would have liked to have seen the straps they used. Are they attached to the pot itself or does it sort of run through the pot? Not that it makes any difference as long as they work I suppose.

Hi. Frausnow, here is a photo of the pots I bought at the yardsale (2 different sizes). Here's a front-view. The next post will have a close-up of the strap mechanism.

LOL Gymgirl ~ thank you... That was a Duh moment for me. 8 )

Oh, OK! Now I see how it works...the strap goes under the lip, or edge, of pot. Appears to be attached to the pot on one side. Thanks for the pics. Those are cool pots.

Grayslake, IL(Zone 5a)

Hmm, I wonder if I do that with some type of straps from the hardware store and pots with lips...gears turning...

why do i smell smoke?

Oops, meant to say also they seem to be the only site that has them and they're not available. Will scour local places and report back if I find any.

What keeps them from sliding down the gutter? I understand they are strapped on, but it seems like the weight would slide down the slick gutter.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Cathy4, I've got mine threaded through latticework so sliding is not an issue. But I did just put one up on a downspout and it shows no signs of slipping.

For one thing, the pot's shape hugs the downspout pretty well, because it's curved to accept the shape of the downspout. It's not a round pot, it's more kidney-shaped or subtly crescent-mooned shape, I guess. So you can push it up against the downspout and the soft plastic sort of grabs onto the downspout. And then of course there is the strap. And third, when attached, it is slanted a bit so that the pot's bottom pushes against the downspout, to prevent slipping. Here's another picture taken to show that.

Thank you for the clarification.
