Carl, Did you catch that one? If so, do you want to come to my place and take care of mine? They're taking over my yard! ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH

I did catch it. But I still have moles.
I now just name them and tell folks I have invisible pets.

sigh

LOL Carl. I'm going to try a different approach. Not sure what, but I don't want to get too familiar with mine. I want them OUTTA HERE!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Ugly looking little buggers, hope they don't ever discover my yard.

******LOL Carl. I'm going to try a different approach. Not sure what, but I don't want to get too familiar with mine. I want them OUTTA HERE!******

After a lot of reading and trying a coupla things, I'm convinced certain approaches do not work. Like any kinda fox urine, garlic or other treatment to the yard. Windmills and sonic buzzers w'ever also have a poor reputation.

MAYBE Tomcat (baited fake worms) and MAYBE Giant Destroyer (big smoke bombs) work sometimes. trapping can work too. In most successful methods, it is still important to distinguish abandoned from active tunnels.

There is a propane device that basically explodes in the tunnel system. probably unavailable to homeowners though.

I've often thought that running a short hose from the exhaust of the lawnmower into the tunnels would work. Though I would never do that if I thought a neighbor had a basement. basements are rare in Texas though so it should be OK.

Ultimately, you're gonna need a pet name for it. You can search here for previous discussions of mole problems.

Got Mole Problems? Call 'Avogadro 6.02x10^23'

ROFLOL!!

Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't get it. :(

molecular theory joke...*rolling eyes*...after I laughed of course:0)

Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I figured it was something along those lines. LOL

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

yeah.. and the MOLEculor theory hit the nail on the head..lol.. On the windmills.. we had them bad in the "field" in front of the house, so DH gets 3 lil windmills... All I know is we never had them in the YARD.. now we do.. and they're not in the field....heard juicy fruit gum works too

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

I tried the Tomcat. Don't bother. The windmills will work until the little boogers get used to it. The best thing I found is the Victor Mole Trap, and a swift shovel!!!

Good Luck!

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

I've tried the windmills, juicy fruit gum, the mole trap, the buzzing things you stick in the ground, human hair in the holes, boiling water, poison peanuts, castor beans, Tom Cat poison worms.....and none of them worked for me. I still have moles and the only time I ever find one dead it's in my dog's mouth. They are worse than roaches. I tried the Victor killers too and they tunneled around it.

They are very resourceful. They tunnel around ours sometimes. I am going to attack their food source = Grubs. I don't like to use chemicals, but I find I really don't have much choice. We are being overwhelmed by them.

Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm not sure whether I have moles or voles. Anyone try milkyspore on the grubs?

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

I have so many tunnels in my yard, you think you are drunk without drinking when walking in my yard!
:~)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL! Linda...Are we going to see you at Arlington RU April 5th? I hope so and hope you are doing better now health wise.
Sheila

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

I have them bad too. Walking through my front yard nearer the street is risky business. You never know when your foot is going to sink into a tunnel. I thought about attacking their food source too.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

I treated for grub worms too one year in an attempt to thwart them, they still kept coming in my yard.

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

AAAAAARRRRRGGGGG!!!!!!!

Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I think we have hijacked charlenesplants' thread with talk of these underground pests. Sorry charlene.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Come on guys, show us your picture of yourself.

Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Moles diet is 70% earthworms.

OK - my last mole post in this thread.

Carl

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Hey guys! I love the chat, but not here pleeasee! If we would just keep this post to photos it would work the way it should work. If you choose to chat, just start a new thread or d-mail each other.

Just pics please. So we can connect names to faces when we are on other threads to chat.

I try to avoid the camera and usually manage to be the one taking the photos. But here's one of me (patrob -- Patricia) and my DH Robert that Josephine posted last year after the April CSRU. I cropped and changed the background, but the danged wrinkle-removing tool does not work in my paint program! :>(
