I think TLC is on one very long shopping expedition !
Or locked in by ice? Not sure how her area is faring with that nasty weather back there.
Happy Birthday, Arlene and many, many more!! Yesterday was also the fifth birthday of our grandson. The family was out all day but I sang 'Happy Birthday' to him over the phone!!
Take care,
Chuck
Thank you everyone! My birthday was spent knee deep in decision making and putting out fires. The remodel we started 16 months ago is all of a sudden moving very fast; why is it the electrician, plumber, carpenter all show up on the same day plus people delivering fireplace, couch, appliances? It was truly a crazy day but progress definitely made.
The weather here . . .we had a couple of days minus 20 degrees WITHOUT figuring in the windchill factor. But once it is below zero . . . well . . . cold is cold.
I plan to post before and after pictures to show you all what we did . . . when the dust settles.
I am currently in CA until Tuesday and will be going to a movie and dinner with my daughters to celebrate. I am also here for a ceremony for my grandaughter who is being inducted into a second honor society at Cal State.
Talked to amarantha00 on the phone which was a great b/d present; she is doing well and may come to Kayperc's with me next month.
Regards to all,
a
And here you are in Ca and it's raining...you missed our wonderful several weeks of summer-like days....BUT, it's certainly not in the 20's, so should be a nice break for you. How can you make yourself go back to Iowa before Spring?
Sherry,
January 15th I flew into CA from minus 20 in Iowa to 88 in CA. I look forward to going back to Iowa and starting my heirloom tomato seeds and seeing quite a bit more progress on our house remodel while I was gone. The frustrating months there are March, April, & May. We think Spring should have arrived but the last two years there was no Spring . . . it just went from a snowstorm into summer. Too bad because I enjoy a real Spring where everything warms up gradually.
Year before last we had some really warm days and things were starting to pop-then the temp dove to around 10-20 degrees for a week ruining the nice show of perennials we usually have.
Once it seems to have warmed up . . .there can be a frost warning . . . then we run out with little paper bags and put hats on all the lily blooms. I have even taken bed blanket out to cover the perennials. Very sure the neighbors think I am certifiably crazy. But it works.
The DH is from Davenport so we spent a couple of separate years there......couldn't decide where we wanted to be, we'd be there for a year and then in October I'd panic and decide I had to be back in California while condtions would still allow us to get there. So, then we'd be here for a year and I'd miss the good friends I'd made in Iowa, so back to Iowa and then, come October, back to California. We spent 4 years doing this and then were ready to buy a house in Bettendorf and I just couldn't do it. I loved the snow, but missed the ocean too much. If my friend back there were still living, I'b probably still be going back and forth. Jer's brother lives in Dubuque...hates California. You get the best of both......
and I think you described why you have the screen name "wc
gypsy"!!!
Yup......I never, ever thought I could stay in one place the way we've stayed here....it's kinda boring........
As often as I go back and forth there is no room for boredom.
