orientpet hybridizing

How easy is it to cross orientpets ... Do seeds need special handling?

Many orienpets are fertile when using pollen from tetraploid trumpets or other orienpets. You just have to experiment and find what works. I don't get the huge amount of seeds like I get from diploid trumpet crosses and a big fat pod does not necessarily indicate a lot of good seed inside.

Most of my orienpet seeds have germinated at ambient temperature (inside) within a month; if no germination at that time I chill in the fridge for a few weeks. Germination can be sporadic.

I tried 2 pages of OT (mostly) crosses this year. Some OT I crossed with other OT, some with oriental, some with asiatics, and some crosses wth henryii. A few of these crosses produced seeds that looked viable. A few of those actually germinated. And 2 of those have actually survived the first few months. That last statistic tho I'm sure is operator error! Think of it as a learning curve task.

2 pages = I didn't actually count. I wrote them down in a spiral notebook. Maybe 40 crosses.

Excellent! You never know (sometimes even if you are a real hybidizer) what you will get out of them.

Thanks for the imput
