If I find it in the database, does that mean...

does it mean that that person who listed the enrty "has" that plant? or is it just where you can enter your "knowledge" of the said plants? I know this is a dumb Q here but if I don't ask, I will never know.

No... it doesn't mean the person has that plant. I've listed a lot of things that I don't actually have. I've listed some things that I wouldn't want - LOL!! It's not such a dumb question - I've had a couple e-mails from people looking at the plants I put in the database as if it were my trade list.

I would say that you shouldn't presume that because someone entered a plant in the database, that they actual own one of those specimens.

Several entries that I have added are plants that I am interested in, but do not own.

Mollybee, that is a VERY good question, and you're not the only one who has wondered.

If you find it in the database, it means whoever entered it knows enough about it to enter it. They may be growing it, may have grown it in the past, or are interested enough in it to do do some research. My entries cross into all those areas.

Now, if someone has posted propagation or seed starting tips, or a photo of the plant, there's a good chance they're growing it.

Dave added a very cool feature to the database recently. Open an entry and scroll down to the bottom. There you will see who (if anyone) has it in their journal. This only shows up if their journal is "public" (you decide in your preferences whether to make yours public or private). So maybe more folks will consider making their journals public? Come on, it's not like anybody's going to do a "white glove test" for dust in there or anything!!!!

If you are looking for a particular plant, do a "search" of DG (between "Help" and "Member List" in the box on the right.

You will be given all threads that contain the word(s), then the database entries, the journal entries, and finally the tradelists where the word(s) are found.

Sorry for the long reply, but hope this helps!

Thanks ya'll This really saves me alot time. I knew all I had to do was ask and someone would gladly answer my Q! Now I wont feel like such a heel for sending e/mails to folks that don't have the plants, I think I will start using the search key for those hard to find plants! Thanks again ya'll you're the bes!!
