Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

I really did not want to judge you harshly by one photo. (giggle)

Clarkson, KY

You want to see more like that?!

Clarkson, KY

!?! That's not where flying Dachshunds would take me...

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

It seems they may be scary flying Dachhunds Cousin Nut. It was all cute til someone noticed the gleam in his eye. We're checking it out on the RM forum in case we have to send out an APB to the other forums.

They got a Jaccuzzi?? Claire.... can you adopt me? I can bathe myself, but, I think that your animals must be the most pampered on the planet!!!!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I didn't run the jaccuzzi for the ducks - I thought it would scare them.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

DH wondered the same thing... he determined they must be quite spoiled to get the jacuzzi!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I just KNEW I should have let Claire adopt me! I would paddling around a jacuzzi right now. Of course I had to be persnickety about the sitting on a dud egg, didn't I? O bother.

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Well, I don't know how I missed this thread...

C, they are really getting big! They do love taking a bath...and messing up the entire bathroom!

Has the one that most looks like a mallard begun a voice change...kind of like...cheep, cheep, quuuuack, cheep? If so, it is a girl.

I don't believe that anyone has told you this...but I could be wrong ;o)) Blue Swedish are not blue they are actually black. They were named that for a reason but that was many many years ago. Some call them black swedish nowadays.

Do any of the yellow/white ones have a bill that is shaped differently then the others? You may have at least, one that is a White Campbell (often called a Khaki Campbell even though Khakis are beige). Anyway, their bill is more straight then Pekins.

You probably did not want this much information but after all, I am a duckmother. LOL That is what Mothers do ;o))

My little Eliza Ducklittle has found her a couple of boyfriends! Here she is the other day...with food all on her face and in her notsrils

Hi duckmother ^_^ That pic really shows off Eliza's prettiful feathers.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Hi Duckmother,

Thank you, as always, for your wonderful input! The mallard doesn't peep any more, she only quacks. And maaaan, it's LOUD! She is the loudest quacker of all of them. I assume that means she is female?

They are all quacking except for two who are still cheep-hissing.

I am now completely confused about Swedish ducks. I found this site a while ago, which I read:
http://www.domestic-waterfowl.co.uk/swedish.htm
As you will see, it says ". There is no such thing as a Black Swedish it is the occasional result of any unstable blue-blue mating as is 'Splashed" it is not shown or bred from but a good pet duck."

It also says "black birds are NOT black swedish they are rejects . . do not breed from them" (see under bottom picture on the page).

The pictures they show have lots of ducks with blue colored feathering (well, blue as in the grey-blue we expect with chickens also).

From these, and other websites, I had expected some blue feathering. :-(

Now I see that my Swedish ducks are in fact reject ducks. :-(
Also, the one has the brown feathering coming in on its head. I think it's a mallard mix.
Well, I still love them.

All the white ones appear roughly the same to me. They seem to have extremely thick necks, much thicker than I would have expected. I do believe all their bills are the same, and all kind of pinkish right now.

I also have the 2 adult Muscovy ducks out in the barn. I'm hoping to integrate them all this weekend.

I just love Eliza - she's gorgeous!

Well I think that's pretty rude of them to call Dippy a 'reject' if in fact Dippy is a Swedish one? Drat I get all the kinds mixed up.

North Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

They are correct to a point. I probably should have explained better. Ducks are bred as many dogs are bred...for thoroughbreds...except they want thoroughducks ;o)) Many people have wonderful, trainable, etc dogs that they get from the shelter. The same goes for ducks. If you look at very many websites you will see that most ducks have been bred with other kinds/colors/sizes of ducks. They want it to be smaller, prettier, etc. Some folks pay big bucks for the top ducks...just like some pay high dollar for "the best" dog. Plus, there are people that would say the website is wrong, that blue is only the standardized color. We have no idea about your ducks and who their momma and daddy may be. The coloring may or may not be due to the breeding with another type of duck or may be due to parents genes. Continue to watch your duck, you may see some bluing, splashing and/or white on the tips of wings before the little love is grown. I am sorry for the confusion that I caused.

You may have all Pekins and not any Campbells. If they are all quacking you have all females. If the other two are still peeping and are the same age as the others, most likely, they are males. We shall see...

Thanks for the kind comments about Eliza. She has a boyfriend, now, so I am not certain how long she will come to me for mealworms. ;o)

O I get it now. Thanksduckmother. Dippy isn't a thoroughbred duck. That sounds alot better than 'reject'.

Newton, AL

Wow, they grow FAST!! Really cute Claire. I hope to have goose pics before long. I am so excited.
Love the pretty pond. Beautiful country.
off to work
