A small list of contradictions

Life is full of contradictions ... Ain't it?

1. All good things come to those who wait.
....Time and tide wait for no man.

2. The pen is mightier than the sword.
....Actions speak louder than words.

3. Wise men think alike.
....Fools seldom differ.

4. The best things in life are free
....There's no such thing as a free lunch

5. Slow and steady wins the race
....Time waits for no man

6. Look before you leap
....Strike while the iron is hot

7. Do it well, or not at all.
....Half a loaf is better than none.

8. Birds of a feather flock together.
....Opposites attract.

9. Don't cross your bridges before you come to them.
....Forewarned is forearmed.

10. Doubt is the beginning of wisdom.
....Faith can move mountains.

11. Great starts make great finishes.
....It ain't over 'till it's over.

12. Practice makes perfect.
....All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

13. Silence is golden.
....The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

14. You're never too old to learn.
....You can't teach an old dog new tricks

15. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Interesting- and I'm trying to figure out what it tells us about human nature!

We humans can come up with words of encouragement (or discouragement) for every occasion!

How about this one:

Once burnt, twice shy.
...Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.

That just came into my head out of nowhere...but I think i have done both a few times in my life LOL.

Nice one merigold. We get some lovely thoughts quite spontaneously at times. Experience teaches us so many things as we tread along in life. I'm sure you did them because you felt it right AT THAT GIVEN TIME. Otherwise, who likes to do mistakes knowingly? They just happen.

I think the list shows us how we want to be able to justify every action, whether it seems wise or not at the time, or whether it turned out good or bad.

I like the list. so funny! We like to have some wise saying for every occasion depending on the outcome.

I agree. We sometimes want to justify our actions when we are compelled to go against that little voice inside.

We also want others to think we are more in control of our impulses than they are lol.

But it is humbling (and humorous) to notice our own contradictions.

I am a morning person and have been for 15 or so years now. I didn't use to be so here was my standard answer when people would tease me and say....

The early bird gets the worm to which I would reply..... the early worm gets eaten by the bird. I probably heard that somewhere but it became my standard answer. LOL
