Will Be Setting Up My EBs Soon As Weather Allows? PART 2

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

This time I will dump my used Jungle Growth on top of the lawn as thy will be putting in some new sod so the JG won't go to waste. The rest of my EBs will be filled with BocaBobs coco coir. My cucumbers and eggplants are growing like crazy in them. If you don't believe me take him up on his $5.95 offer and see for yourself?

TPlant: Which one is the Armenian Cuke and which one is the eggplant? (Now you know why I need the colored solo cups right?)

That is the one on the left low to the ground as we had to remove the supports to move it as they must climb. Will replace tomorrow.

TPlant: I have both eggplant and cucumber planted and am looking at everyone else's so as I know when they are big enough to go outside. I bought all my startings last year remember? LOL I do have 43 tomato startings though this year, I have Park's Whopper, Park's Super Bush and RH Shumways' Medium Red, would you like some? I really don't need that many ya know?

Thanks again but I quit my tomatos in March but I had to stop early because of the construction crew getting to do my driveway. Could not get them to do the entire garden as hoped but just as well as I forgot about our summer sun and it would cook the water in my EBs unless I raised them but even at that the heat reflection could be to much for them and me! What do you think?

Crestview, FL

So you can come up here and help me with mine. LOL

Not quite!!

TPlant: But I need a good instructor up here. LOL I'm going to be posting guard when the maters hit the back yard. I saw what I thought was little birdies flying all in my back yard and everywhere, nope, they were moths, probably the ones that layed all those horned catepillars that destroyed both my mater crops last year. They probably smell my maters in the house and are just hawking waiting for to jump on my poor defenseless maters. Little do they know I got their number this time, got the goggles, the mask and the dipel dust handy this time. LOL

Sic em!!

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Well I finally cleared everything! The rest is up to them starting tomorrow I hope as I worked all week-end with the help of my son and believe me the sun was brutal.

Moved my eggplants and cucumbers up forward out of the way. Had to disconnect the watering system for today but will reinstall tomorrow as I've gotten very used to not having to water all, as the automatic system does it all for me thanks to BocaBobs assistance and guarantee that I would love it! Tell ya! If you don't have one get it as it is terrific and of course great for the plants.

This will be paved hopefully tomorrow?

Oh! Some real good news. Our temporary fence will be removed and all you see will be ours! That is a big increase in property and I intend to take my roses from the back and run them straight along the new fence thus giving us a lot more room. My orange tree, Star fruit and figs will probably be in that area but I've not decided where just yet? Will take better pictures tomorrow as I'm planning to beautify my deck as I had it before with unusual landscaping. I've been thinking Brugs and Datura's?
On the extreme right will be a parking area for cafeteria personnel so it really isn't all you can see but more than enough for me and greater than I HAD EVER HOPED!

Wow, Tplant. I can see why you are excited. It's been a long time coming, huh? So what else have you got planned for the new space?

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Well I have about fifteen 15" cedar containers and about ten 20"
cedar containers so I would love to plant large Brugmansia (5 to 6 feet tall) and Datura 3 to 4 feet tall planted between and run along the white wall. The beauty of the flower plus the fragrance would be magnificent not counting the appearance....This would be part of the view from my deck which I will pressure wash and stain as soon as the paving is done and dust is no more. The deck faces east, sunrise. Imagine sitting out there in the morning with my coffee and feeding my Blue Jays, looking at my roses, Brugs, Daturas, Orange tree and Star fruit not counting my Mango tree and Fig Trees which I trained to vase shape?

TPlant : Isn't the cafeteria afraid of losing their customers to you and your tomatos. LOL I'm envisioning how it's gonna look already, our homes can become our castles with a lot of work right?

Hmmmm! Never thought of that? However I'll have some downtime now to save up some money because I'm going to need at least 20 or 30 coir blocks come end of March. I intend to place the containers where intended and then figure what I'll need and also see how they look.

Joy, when do you put your princess tree in?

Crestview, FL

Devota: Soon as it gets in, it hasn't arrived yet, and gratefully as the stumps get lit up this weekend, if it can quit raining long enough. My biggest worry is that flock of moths I saw today, I at first thought they were tiny birds; but upon closer inspection they were huge moths, and they moved in a flock from one tree to the next, like they were on the prowl, probably were, looking for my baby tomatoes and peppers which are safe in the house at the moment. They sure looked like the ones I saw that lay the horned catepillar that devestated both my crops last Spring. So; away I went to the new Tractor and Farm store and picked up my duster for my Dipel dust, that is a must, I can tell already.

I was outside checking on my two artichokes as I think only two are gonna make it the other two look bad, they did when they showed up though. My guy didn't drill a big enough drain hole, and I didn't put a mulch cover on the HEBs and it poured last night, waterlogged the one EB as the hole just wasn't big enough, I fixed that with my trusty knife though and the water dissipated, glad it was coconut coir inside the HEB. whew, that was a close one.

I told ya'll ON ANOTHER FORUM that I was collecting 5-gallon buckets from the construction workers on my job. Almost all the buckets contained paint, however, several contained the wallpaper adhesive. The paint is latex and will peel off. Any way I can put the adhesive buckets in the "food" chain, if I clean them out really, really, really good? They're actually a bit taller than the 5-gallons, and would make excellent water reservoirs for the potting buckets.

LMK ASAP!

Thanks,

Your "Please don't squeeze the coir" Friend,

Linda

Gymgirl, does the label tell what is in the wallpaper adhesive?

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Linda -- I wouldn't take the chance as the chemicals could have permeated the plastic?
