If you wonder what I have been up to recently, some of it has been Facebook. Well, I did it today, and created a way for us to ID ourselves there. Look for the new group on FB "Dave's Gardeners". And spread the word.
DG on Facebook
Thanks. I'm on it!!
Got it. Great idea Rob!

I signed up, but holy mocha there is a lot to learn!
I'll second that one, thistledown!
I'm not sure if I want to go there, some things in my life are left unspoken. Had a bad life before I met my DH.
You only have to put up there what you want to. No requirements. And the only people who can be your "friends" are people you allow to be in your circle. Most people just write what they're doing today.
There is a lot to learn from all of us. The nice thing is that it's mostly for the "older" crowd. And there's a lot you can learn by click and point.
I'm on, but how do I find Dave's Gardeners. Did a search and got Sara's Gardeners LOL
Too funny. I'm Kathleen Grube. Look for me and send me a "friend" request. I'll see if I can't point you to it.
I'm on...Sheri Cox Whetstine. Who else?
Okay, I have kid help today so we'll see if I can get on and find you guys.
If you find one of us, you can probably get to the rest (because many of us are "linked" on FB).
Gotcha!!
OK, I am now on board. Thanks .
I have not yet taken the leap, being a bit intimidated by new technological procedures. Before I frustrate myself trying to figure it out, could some kind person tell me what I would need to think about before I begin. Like...what components does a facebook page contain, are there pitfalls to avoid, anything else? I don't really know how it works.
You don't have to have anything per se - people can find you and request that you be in their circle of friends if you use your own name. I think that's all you need (your handle or name, an e-mail address, and a password). I actually created a different free e-mail address at Google just for the Facebook page because I wasn't sure about it, either. Notifications about people in your circle get sent to that e-mail address.
Your page isn't open to everybody - you have to okay a "friend request". You can post pictures, list links that you like, make statements, join Facebook groups, support causes, play games - as much or as little as you like.
You just go to www.facebook.com, enter your e-mail address and create a page for free!! Many groups are using it for highschool reunions to find eachother, to network for business or hobbies, etc. I know my brother (who is 62) has several high school friends in his network. There are a lot of us "older crowd" on there.
Holly ~ I have several high school friends on Facebook and have just created a group for my triathlon training group. We will use FB as a way to stay connected throughout the winter months when we're not in training. Like Kathy said, no one can see your profile unless you let them by being their "friend." You will get some junk e-mail, which is why I also created a new e-mail account specifically for this. Not too challenging, and another way to keep in touch.
I really like facebook because it is directed more towards adults (vs myspace, etc.) It's a great way to share pictures with family and friends.
Thanks Holly, I was wondering about that to, There are some people out there that I would rather not find or them fine me. I don't want this to sound like I am a fugtive or anything like that. That is not the case. Its just that bad people in the past needs to stay there, in the past.
My son did show me that just by googling my name, anybody could find out all kinds of things about me, including where I live...kind of eye-opening. So, Tilly, if they haven't bothered you yet, those folks are probably staying firmly in the past where they belong.
Okay, I managed to sign up, with a lot of coaching from my teenage son. Now, how do you set up an e-mail address at google? I can see that this would be helpful for keeping facebook from getting all mixed up in other e-mail
Holly here is the link to set up a gmail account
https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=mail&passive=true&rm=false&continue=http%3A%2F%2Fmail.google.com%2Fmail%2F%3Fui%3Dhtml%26zy%3Dl&bsv=1k96igf4806cy<mpl=default<mplcache=2
can anyne tell me why you suggest havinga seperate e-mail account for facebook and not just the one i have now??
Herbie...once you join FB, depending on what applications you use there, it is likely you will get a lot more junk mail. I have 3 e-mail accounts...one for family/friends, one for online purchases, and one for public stuff (like FB). It's simply a matter of personal preference.
Herbie- I use my current email address. When people request to be your friend, or when friends send you a message it will send you an email. I think that some folks don't want it filling up thier current email inboxes. Once you set up your account you can go to the "settings" tab and select what you want to recieve emails for. You can set it up so that you only recieve email notification for certain things.
Oh, hey, thanks Rach. I didn't know about the settings thing. Just shut everything off. *phew!* That ought to save a lot of space!
Ditto here. I didn't know about the settings thing. That should help.
I'm the same as outta - I have three e-mail addresses. One for home, and the other two for signing in to various things and online shopping. If they start getting too much spam, then I can abandon them and start another pretty easily.
I have one on yahoo and one on hotmail as well. I like to use the yahoo one for all the catalogs that I sign up for!
I have been learning alot, keep talking, never new about haveing many Email addys. and have no clue how to set them up, to get by Firefox.
Dumb here. LOL
You can go to any of these sites and just click on e-mail. The site will sign you up for it. Then you go back to the same site to collect your mail from any computer that can access the Internet, regardless of the browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc.)
www.google.com
www.msn.com
www.yahoo.com
And you can set up more than one e-mail "account" at these sites, as well. If you want to use Google's free photo sharing, you'll need to set up an e-mail account with them. If you want to join any of Yahoo's groups (dog lovers, gardeners, gardening coops, local freecycle), you'll need to set up e-mail with them. But it's easy and quick and doesn't cost anything.
Just remember to write down your new email addy and password (sheepishly speaking from experience here :0) so when you go to log on a week later and can't remember which password you used...........
Off next 2 days, will look in to it. I have a Google acct. but can't rember my pass word, have to make a new one.
See ya there, maybe LOL
We over lapped, but its funny you said that, I have done that too on many things ^_^
Night
