Ferndale, WA

Harm: thanks for the great pic's, I have one of them silver spangled Hamburgs. She's pretty but what a screaming ole bitty. She's mean and screams every time I try to take her egg from her. I also have two of the Campines, very pretty but very flighty. So glad you had a great time. Not surprised you purchased some birds. Haystack. Did you see any Lakenvelders while at the show. Beautiful birds, I have one and she's named Sewincircle. LOL

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

Hi Harmony,
I was at the show too, but didn't take any pictures. Yours sure are great. I think that big black roo was a jersey giant. I know I saw one with that label on the cage. I watched that one judge do some of the modern game birds. He was giving us all info while he judged each bird, neck and leg length need to be the same and other stuff. Very interesting. I just love the seabrights, both the gold and silver ones.
Are you going to the Fancy Fowl Club show in Monroe on valentine's day?
Becky

(Zone 7b)

Becky i sure will be going got a man bringing me some pigeons. Well i wish i knew you were there i would have said HEY!
I was the lady in the carhart jacket walking around with a camera and a chicken in a box. I believe i was a little annoying with my camera and constantly flashing pics LOL

Yes that probably was a jersey giant and the judges are tough they count the feathers in thier tails and the chickens have to basiclly be perfect.
My friend Jesse placed i believe my other friend didn't tho.
I know at least 6 or more that show that were there it's a very competitive thing to show chickens.

Well i hope to see you in monroe ^_^

Kent, WA

Wharton, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks for the photos Harmony. I loved the big fat Orpington. I hope I can find some poultry shows in my area. I too will have a great time.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Wow Harmony - it's like I was right there with you! What great pics. My favorites are:
The huge blue hen

the little caramel colored call duck

They are gorgeous! Thank you so much for taking the time to take all those pictures and post them all for us!

Canton, GA(Zone 7b)

Great pictures! Thank you for sharing!
Is it just me, or do the modern games (i guess thats their name?) look like dinosaurs?

(Zone 7b)

To me they remind me of giraffe's and they have such long legs.

Did you get to the show?

Will you be going to the one in Monroe i highly recommend it? ^_^

Canton, GA(Zone 7b)

I didn't make it to this show... I've never been to one, but I'd love to go, and bring my Moma too. I bet she'd really enjoy it! Do you have any info about the next one? When I googled Monroe Chicken Show it brought up links to KFC!! :-O Not quite what I was looking for! LOL!

(Zone 7b)

All i know at the moment is it's going to be in Criswell Park in Monroe on Feb 14th.

I tried to google it but couldn't find it i will get more info.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I know I don't come in this forum very much anymore but I think its a great idea for everyone to go to at least a few poultry shows
There is such a difference in production birds vs show birds
and such a huge range of breeds you get to see at shows
I know backyard breeders like to breed what they have with what ever is handy
And I'm not putting you down!
But to go to a show and see some of the rare breeds being shown.....
Sometimes I just stop and stare at the beauty
And I wish more poultry people would get a hold of some of the rare breeds and
start breeding them
We are in danger of loosing many rare and beautiful breeds because there is not enough genetic diversity

But go to a show
talk to the breeders

and a small hint while at a show
DONT TALK TO A JUDGE WHILE HE"S JUDGING
You wouldnt like it if people were talking to a judge who was judging YOUR bird
Let him concentrate ,and when he's done, then ask questions
They love to see an interest

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

Hi Crestedchik. No one was asking questions of the judge. He was giving a running commentary of what he was doing and why. I think he likes to educate people.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I wasnt saying anyone did that
(Here I am pushing people to go to shows, don't want them to start out on a bad foot)
Just wanted to to keep anyone who does go to a show not to
make a" faux pau"( is that how its spelled?)
That way they don't look like a possible competitor telling the judge bad points on anyones birds
I've seen it happen......

I like when they do that running comentary
they do that here at the NY State Fair
when they get to champion row they explain everything
very educational

(Zone 7b)

crestedchick funny you mention that my DH made that mistake saturday. He went down the isle where the judge was and just stood there and it annoyed the judge. My DH won't be doing that again it was a honest mistake we had never been to a show.
I got it right off when they put a blue ribbon across one end of the row where the judge was and the fact no one else was on that isle with him.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

a lot of clubs are pushing for the isle to get roped off during judging
which is a good idea but people who are interested in a breed may just be stopping in and may have to wait to see the birds in that isle

I make it a general rule that if the judge is in the isle-stay out of that isle

but if he's judging my birds I cant help watching from 1 isle over....LOL
Yes thats me peeking thru the cages

(Beth) L'ville, GA(Zone 7b)

I missed the show--I woke up with a migraine on Saturday! I am so bummed :-( Harmonyplace--thanks for the pix--almost like being there!
