Skinny kid wants to gain weight

My teenage son wants to gain some weight to bulk up a bit. Does anyone know a safe and healthy product that can be used by a teenager?
Thanks

Try Ensure. You can buy it in any grocery store. It's full of vitamins and calories.

My son used to make those sports drinks with the powdered mixes.
And he worked out in the gym..
Extra pizza would probably work just as well.
Your son can't put on any muscle until his hormones kick in..ususally after the age of 17.
So if he is 13 or 14, he will just have to be patient.

eat lots of starchy food like bread, pasta and rice to bulk up, also lots of eggs

once my son started lifting weights his appetite soared, along came muscle and weight. Now hes a 6' 1" 18 year old who weighs a fit 170 lbs. His weight lifting instructor in school tells him to eat spagetti noodles with butter before working out????

I also thought of ensure. The boy isnt a great eater, eats alot of junk food. Concerning the spaghetti and butter, when I had a Great Dane he was also on the skinny side (he was at that awkward teenage stage) and the breeder told me to feed the dog the same thing. It worked some but getting him neutered put on weight, but I guess thats not an option here. LOL

my dr. told me to make buttered toast in the middle of the night-eating before bed too-you dont burn off the food!
we feed the wrestlers pasta(after weigh in)and it burns off fast!
thin is in! ;]

This is not meant to be funny, but the best way to gain weight appears to be yo-yo dieting. I know it first hand and read a lot about it years ago. There are a few certain things I give up to lose weight that really pull off the pounds-those are cheese, mayonnaise, salad dressing and peanut butter. They are all loaded with fat! If you eat a lot of these with extra proteins-beans, tuna and peanut butter, accompanied by pastas, breads and potatoes, ample excercise should cause him to bulk up. Again, I don't know his age and don't want to encourage something that would not be safe. Men and women are different when it comes to dieting. I have to give up the above things to lose, whereas my little brother can do the Adkins Diet (all meat no carbs) and drop pounds like mad. When I used to work out/power lift, the diet was all starch and protein. I've always had weight problems, but I would rather be too fat than too thin, especially if I were male. Good luck to your son.

A cheap way to get extra protein is to make milk shakes with powder carnation instant breakfast in them.Tastes better and is the same as ensure.

My son is appreciating all your input. BTW he will turn 15 next month. He is 5'6" and weighs 105 lbs.

My son is 15, 6'4", and weighs around 165. he lifts religiously in the back yard and has really started developing his upper body. he also uses the weight lifting as a stress burner. he has tourettes snyrdrome and sometimes he gets overwhelmed with the tics so he has learned to channel it through the weights.
when he first started lifting, its been 2 years now, he wasnt showing results fast enough and all he could think of was needing supplements to help him. we wouldnt allow him to use anything.
we preached healthy eating and plenty of water. i think now he is finally starting to look the way he wants to, and he knows he did it the right way.

I can only say the same as most of the other posters. I lived with a very fit person at college who did weights 6 days a week. He ate a superbly healthy diet, he always said it was the only way to get the energy for his training. All these supplements are no good for you even for crash weight gain. Fish, pulses, veg, meat, milk, water and cereals are designed to help you develop and grow and this is what anyone should be eating.

Good for your son, Tourettes syndrome must be very difficult for him to live with, such a misunderstood syndrome.

If your son is just 15, he will have to be patient. His adult hormones will kick in when he is about 17. Then he will be able to put on muscle mass. And his shoulders will widen out also.
Lifting weights now will be a waste of time.
A lot of his food energy is just going into growing for the time being.
AHH..If I only had his problem..I wish I was 105 lbs now instead of...!

egads, please dont tell me my sons hormones havent kicked in yet!!!!

Oh, at 15 the hormones are kicking in. I am sure of it. His voice has gotten deeper and his eyebrows have gotten darker and bushier and his mouth has gotten much bigger ( nothing you can see of course)
I would never let him take anything like supplements. I was looking for more of the Ensure thing. I dont trust the vitamin gimmicks. I went into GNC when I was prego with Jason and they told me ?something (forgot) would prevent strechmarks. Wrong. Nothing stops those nasty things.
My son gets up every morning and looks for this thread and hopes for his miracle solution.
thanks to all
