American Series

Poland, ME

I am collecting the American Series O/T lilies and am looking for ones I haven't found to buy yet.
The ones I have found so far are:
American Spirit
American Debutante
American Flame
American Bandstand
American Original
American West

Does anyone know where I can buy American Dream, American Adventure or American Way?

Are there any others I haven't heard about yet?

Good morning Ramona!

I've noticed Spring Hill/ Brecks sells several of the American series. Not my favorite place to buy from, but I've seen pics of those other members have purchased from them and they looked to be true to name and virus free. They're offering 'American Dream', as well as 'American Journey', 'American Hope', 'American Original', 'American Heritage', and 'American Ingenuity'.

I'm not finding a source for 'American Adventure', but there's a DG member who has it that may be able to direct you:

Can't even find a picture of 'American Way'

A few years ago I got some of the American series from a bloomingbulb co op. The OTs I got from them were pretty good and true to name, but some of the Asiatics from them were virused, so I'm reluctant to get any more lilies from them.

I meant to ask you, what has your experience been with 'American West' thus far? I got one a few years ago from White Flower Farm (the only place I found selling it) for $9. The first year I had a stalk but no bloom, the 2nd year I got a couple of gorgeous blooms, the 3rd year the emerging stalk froze, and last year it broke in the wind just before blooming! Why is it that only happens to expensive ones that you only have 1 bulb of? LOL

I had no luck with American West, but I am going to give it another try.

I got my American series lilies from WFF and all have done very well, including Am. West, Am. Dream, and Am. Spirit (I think what they actually sent was American Flame"). Have never seen the other two you could not find. We'll see what "year three" brings in terms of bloom but the second year lilies were much larger/more robust than those of year one.

I found some Am. series lilies at Bloomingbulb - see the link below:

Here is a picture of my "American Dream" in 2nd year - from WFF - I think the yellow-centered ones to the right are "American Flame"

The American Series was easier to find a couple years ago, with places like the Lily Pad, the Lily Nook, White Flower Farm, to name a few, offering a number of varieties. I'm not sure why it is that they aren't as available these days, unless perhaps it is offered on some growing cycle and we are in an off year.

I have had great lucky with all of the Americans that I have grown. I love 'American Ingenuity' , it has the most beautiful yellow and curved petals! 'American West' has done phenomenal here too. I have it near some raspberries and getting a picture of it these days can be pretty prickly ;) I had no idea they would like each other so much. Lol!

Not the greatest of pictures, but here is 'American Ingenuity'

I also collect the American Series and have A. Adventure, A. Bandstand, A. Debutante, A. Dream, A. Flame, A. Heritage, A. Hope, A. Inginuity, A. Original, A. Sensation, A. Sentinal, A. Spirit, A. Way, and A. West. So far, they have all done well for me, but this was their first year. I'll attach a link to my photobucket album so you can see them from my garden. Some of them were just planted this Fall so I don't have photos of them yet (A. Way, A. Hope, A. Debutante).

I ordered many of mine last year from The Lily Nook and The Lily Pad. The Lily Pad hasn't posted their Spring bulbs yet, to my knowledge.

Others that are not on your list include: A. Heritage, A. Inginuity, A. Hope, A. Sensation, A. Sentinal, A. Journey. I got an A. Journey from Spring Hill and it is NOT A. Journey so be careful. There are 2 others that I can't find because they are out of production called A. Vacation and A. Style. Let me know if you are ever able to locate them, I'd be very interested!!!

That's a very nice collection of lilies, rfc. And welcome to Dave's!

Is that the normal trait for Black Spider: to have the petals offset like you show?

RFC, This is the lily which I purchased from Springhill as American Journey. Does yours look the same? I am new to lilies and wouldn't know the difference.

Thanks everyone. I have already added another 50 cultivars this past Fall and will probably add another 50 or so this Spring so there will be many more lily pics added to my album this summer. Yes, I'm an addict.

Leftwood, I'm not sure if that is normal for the petals of Black Spider to do that. I have never seen it like that is any other pictures on websites. This was the first year it bloomed, maybe it needs some settling in time. I think it was a just a strange occurrance with mine.

Stormyla, yours is American Journey (to my knowledge). Mine was mainly yellow with a little red on it. It looked a lot like American Sentinal. Maybe I'll have to order another set and see if it blooms true.

Mainiac, What happened to your American West? This fall I planted American West & American Flame. They came from White Flower Farm.

Well, to be honest I may still have it but I lost the plant tag...

After reading here and elsewhere I just put in an order for my first American lilies for my Birthday. I ordered from BloomingBulb.com. I'm so excited! My husband is excited he doesn't have to shop for me too!

I picked out Am. Bandstand, Am. Journey, Am. Spirit, and Am. West.
I'm glad for gardenwatchdog helping me decide that this is an ok co.
