Towel Stain Help Please

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

My darling husband washed our brand new JC Penny cream colored towels with 2 of his black t-shirts and you all can probably imagine what they look like now. Does anyone know of a way to get the stains out?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Think Crissy it will be a good excuse to go out shopping again...very doubtful they will look anything but stained regardless of what you do...

(Zone 7a)

I agree. An old roommate of mine did the same thing with a yellow sweater of mine. It always had a grey cast afterwards. Especially if they've gone through the dryer.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

WWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I was afraid of that. I wonder if JC Penny still has them on sale, they are $8.00 towels on sale for $4.00, two weeks old.

(Zone 7a)

Take them back and see what they say. You never know. They may let you exchange them.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I doubt it, I don't even have the receipt. Actually I probably do if I would look through the pile and clean my purse once in a while LOL!

Well it is not JC penny's fault that your DH ruined them. They have no control over how customer washes them, and I don't think they would return them for that. Now if they shrank, or came unraveled or something similar I would want them refunded.

Have they been through the dryer yet?
I assume so.
Well you probably can't do anything about them. Try washing them again. If you have hard water, add vinegar to the wash, that might help. Was in warm water not hot, as hot may set it in more. I would try some color safe bleach. Maybe you should post this on the Frugal Living forum, there is a section there on homemade laundry soap and those ladies very well could help you.

Oh yea, they were definitely ran through the dryer, but I think I did it!! I just put them back in the washer, by themselves, with no detergent or fabric softener or anything else, the stains looked half gone when they are wet, so I ran them through the washer just like before and I couldn't see any of the stain, wet. They are in the dryer now so we'll see how they came out here in a bit. I thought I put OxyClean in the washer but the scoop was sitting on top of the washer full, so apparently I didn't put it in LOL!

Sometimes even if it is your fault, retailer will exchange. I've seen it many times.

How did they come out?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Well, the stains are almost gone, I can just see a shadow of where they were, one towel is worse than the other 2. I started blaming it on the 3rd shift, he's been doing a lot of stupid stuff and not noticing. I think he's tired and stuck on stupid and doesn't realize it. I just hope and pray he doesn't get laid off.

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

Well when my hubby works horrible hours, I feed him.

:)

he also gets extra back rubs and that helps relieve stress, helps him to fall asleep easier.
12 hour days get long after a while, but we need the money and we are thankful too that he isn't laid off so far ....

Dave won't eat, he cooks all the meals, low fat style, and is constantly dieting because if he wasn't he'd gain 200 pounds in a week. I'm at work all day, he's at work all night, and I remember when I worked that stupid shift I wasn't all there either, and I was 18, he's 47 and too old to be working that shift, and of course they moved the young new kid to days and left Dave on 3rd. gggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr His company is making major restructuring changes that are supposed to take place on the 26th after more lay-offs, so I'm waiting to see what happens. I just pray he doesn't get laid off, that would Not be good!

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

Well working different shifts from each other would be difficult.
I do like to see companies put the younger men on days though, because I think it is more stable for their marriages and their kids during those years in their lives. I remember when my husband and I first got married and had a baby, he worked nights for a while and it was really hard on us. Probably better for the folks who have been married longer and have grown kids, but then I guess there are pros and cons on both sides of that.
I just read in the news that 40,000 jobs were cut recently by circuit city, some insurance companies and travel places. That is gonna really hurt alot of folks. :(

Good luck to you!

Your right. However, this young kid has 4 kids by 3 different moms, 2 of those are ex-wives, I think he's 25! You'd think he'd want the 3rd shift for all of the overtime and shift differential. Dave's 47, I'm 36, we've been married for 2 1/2 years and we don't have kids and more than likely won't. We have talked about it numerous times and he wants to travel in his 50's and 60's, if we had a baby today he would be in his mid 60's before the child would be 18, that doesn't mean the child is going to move out at 18 years old. Of course they could more than likely take care of themselves by that time, but he said he doesn't want to be that old going to a high school graduation. So kids are probably not in our future, which is fine with me because I am selfish and have never really wanted children.

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

LOL on the selfish thing.
I have three, and sometimes I find my self thinking WHY! did I EVER do this.
stooopid.

oh well, then sometimes they are ok. you know.
but I think if I didn't have kids, I wouldn't have missed anything either. It is just different. but either way is good.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL selfish is funny but it's true!!!
You know, it's a toss up. If I had met Dave when he was in his 30's and I would have been in my 20's (Yikes) I definitely would have had his kids, without a doubt. We just met too late, but he was already married in his 30's and I was too mentally young to care in my 20's, and he says I wouldn't have liked him, which has me wondering "What did I marry??"

I work with a gal, she's probably 47ish and a grandma to a very sick little girl. Anyway she took her to a dr appt the other day and while in the waiting room trying to fill out paperwork the child puked all over the floor, then pooped her pants, all because of nerves. Then she was carrying a bunch of stuff the dr gave her for being good, she threw it all over the waiting room as they were leaving and grandma had to pick it all up. She looked at me and said, "Now WHY is it Christine that you don't want to have kids? I just can't figure it out!!"

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

Little brats will drive you insane most days that is for sure.
The other thing is, I just can't seem to raise my own, when they are around, here comes half a dozen neighbor kids. Good Grief!
I tell them to go home, if I wanted 10 kids, I'd of had 10 kids lol

Kinda sad, cause they just don't have anything to do and half the time don't eat well or have anything much at all. Their parents just don't care much about them I think. Seems to be more and more of that.

Crisy
Try that Oxyclean you have up on the washer..doesn't have to be a full cup (a 1/4 cup will do --in a sink full of hot water --- with about a cup of bleach in the water. Just let them soak --- until the water gets cold .. I bet you will see the rest of the stains leave.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Huh. I'll try that. I thought of bleach but I didn't want to bleach out the cream color. I never thought of using the two together in warm water.

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

opps figured your towels were white to start. Not sure about the bleach and the cream color - well ... a lighter shade of cream may be better than the stain to you anyway. Lower to a 1/2 cup of bleach (and I am refering to a 'true' half cup measure)

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

They're pretty light, in some lighting they look white lol! That's what I was telling my mom, I like the cream but white is ok too! LOL!
