I have been away from DG for quite awhile and I have dearly missed my DG buddies. It's good to be back! As some of you know my Dad and I started building a small barn back in May. Well it's not "done" but it's getting close... I must admit I am one lucky girl who has an amazingly talented father, who just happens to be retired! Here goes :0)
This photo: my dad, Gary at the transit (red cap,) sighting in where the foundation will go. My husband, Carl with the tape measure.
My new barn......
Getting a "how to build stuff" class from Opa. All three boys now have tool bags that are stored in Aunt Rachel's barn so whenever they come over they can build stuff to thier hearts content. You should see some of the stuff they have built for the rabbits, ducks chickens and garden!

Yes, I must agree that the bleh, foggy ick sucks but it's soooo much better than the snow and ice! Love the pic of your yard. Hugs, Rach
Thats too cool Rach. So have missed you, Welcome back with lots of Hhhhhugs.
You had me confused at first, Mom in purple shirt, Man did mom change in next photo. Funny I just love the barn
Please send your Dad out, to help with the expansion on my GH I want it bulit like a Brick mmm House too. LOL My DH has no clue.
Scrappy looks Sssooo good, Glad he was the boss he does good work , making sure its right.
Lots of
Hugs
Look out
here he comes
Tills- thanks for the warm welcome back. My poor dad, I'm already working on him to build me another garden shed, since the barn and the teahouse are already full. He also has a list a mile long from my mom and he's trying to build a new woodshop for himself! He's a popular guy! I love the pic of Tyler, it looks like he's flying!
Scrappy loved the snow too!
Stealth kitties... I love it!
Cedar board and batten, all repurposed from old fences, buildings, etc. I am truly blessed to have both of my parents. I count my blessing everyday. :0)
Oh, Rach, those are fine fine buildings - the teahouse is envymaking, and I loved seeing the progress of the barn - I do love a woman with her own 16oz stanley hammer - I could just feel the thump of it on nails - my hands itched with eagerness! do you get to have a tool belt, too? Boy can your father design and build. The change of direction of the planking on the teahouse is just stunning, and the upper door! All absolutely beautiful - so its a National Building Association party that Sofer was talking about - this might be better than having them bake.
Looking forward to seeing more.
wow! NICE barn...and love the side shed too! we were planning a similar structure with a side shed overhang.....but now need that area for the chicken yard and coop! lol! I'll still get the shed, but no overhang :(
Tilly! great to see you here again! love the furbaby pix!
AnjL
AnjL, wouldn't it be a good idea to go ahead with the overhang so the chickens can have a shady place - and they would be very happy to have a few wheelbarrows and things to roost on. they're flexible.
Laurie-
This is the greatest hammer I have ever owned, it's worth it's weight in gold; http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-51-162-FatMax-AntiVibe-Nailing/dp/B000NIBHXS/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1232209375&sr=8-7 No sore arms and wrists with this one! I don't have a tool belt I prefer to carry my nails in a container (coffee can, sour cream tub, etc.) I have seen a very cool pink tool belt (worn by some of the gals on the home makover shows.) I haven't managed to find one yet! I must agree my dad is incredibly talented. We are going to build a chicken coop this spring, I can hardly wait!
Anjl, I would love to see pictures when you start building it!
Oh man, Rach. I was lurking yesterday while you were posting the pix, about 5:15. I knew you weren't done yet so kept my fingers off the keyboard. Now I can say, OMG! I don't have a dad...can I borrow yours? (I think I've asked this question about a dozen times before). Once the barn is finished, though, you'll have no use for the little shed that I have been coveting since I saw it at your work party, so I'd be happy to relieve you of the burden of caring for the little bugger. That barn is SO cool! Can't hardly wait to see it finished.
And ladies, as far as pink tool belts are concerned ~ I am the self-designated goddess of all things pink (I just picked up my new pink road bike yesterday!)...Here you go: http://pinktoolbelts.com/category/16/Pink-Tool-Belts.html. The website also has pink gloves, bags, hard hats and safety glasses. There is also: http://girlylock.com/construction-gear/tool-belts/?gclid=CKWR9L2GlpgCFRwDagoddmh2Aw, AND http://www.amazon.com/Apollo-Precision-DT0773N1-135-Piece-Household/dp/B000GUTJRY/ref=pd_bxgy_hi_img_c
SO LADIES...SHOW US YOUR PINKNESS!
Yup, pink toolbelt. Excellent. and I have to say, the hard hat is very tasteful.
Sheri- That is a very generous offer to take the shed "off my hands," nice try babe! Get in line when it comes to borrowing dad, there are a few other DG'ers who want his skills to! Your pretty lucky lady, Tim is one handy fella, handsome, good cook and funny to boot!
Mom and dad are in Maui right now soaking up the sun, lucky buggers! I talked to dad the other day and informed him that the barn, side shed and teahouse are all full........ Sooooooooo, dear daughter needs another one of his creations :0) I think we will be making a chicken coop, shed combo sort of structure. I wouldn't want him to get bored in his retirement! I mean you can only do so much sailing, kayaking, traveling.......... It works out very well; I help them with thier yard, buy dad nice tools and he builds me great stuff!

Sheri- Thanks for the info on the pink toolbelt. I love the GirlyLock website, and the story behind the business. Think I will be ordering one from there!
Hi to you all Rach, Outta and Anjl. Good to hear your voices again. Love the pink stuff. Do they have a gardening belt?
Hey Rachel, I'm so happy to see you back on DG! You clearly keep yourself occupied with worthy pursuits. the barn is marvelous, and so sturdy it'll be standing several hundred years from now. The nephews are absolutely charming. I love the picture of them in their ear protection watching their grandpa with rapt attention.
The teahouse/garden shed is simply precious. Looks like hobbits could live in it.
Hey Willow...nice to see you. I haven't found much in the way of pink gardener's belts except for this: http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/funky-gardening-apron-tool-belt. Though not entirely pink, it has some "sassy" accents... ; )
There's also this place, which has some very colorful accoutrements, though not all pink... http://www.gardendivas.co.uk/results.php?secondary=8
