New Double Pink: Painted Lady x Mon Amour Du Mariel cross

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

This is one I have been anxiously awaiting ever since I saw the double pink blooms that Jerods mom posted from my seeds out of the same pod. This baby loves the heat she was grown in full sun the whole time. She grew 11' tall and now finally has bloomed. Recently I had to move the plant because she was in an exposed area of the yard and subjected to all of the wind storms we have had this winter...and they have been really bad this year. I moved her a bit late however so the calyxes on these buds dried out completely. She is in a more sheltered location now so I'll have to wait for her next flush to judge the calyx. This is the first day of opening so I have no Idea if the skirts will drop down. I'll just have to wait and see. Tonight I'll break out the ladder to see what the fragrance is like.
The blooms are a nice size and have a thick waxy corolla making them very solid flowers. The color on all my blooms right now is pale so it would be unfair to make an assessment on what the true color will be like the rest of the year. All in all I am pleased on how this cultivar has thrived. She is a vigorous and healthy tree and if she continues to put out blooms as solid as these I will be very happy with this cross I have made.

Thanks. i am really hoping that as this plant matures (whether it be with this flush or future flushes), that I'll see the skirts dropping down more giving the bloom a more frilly shape. The blooms are a medium sized, about 10" in length with a 5" width.

I did some 'Painted Lady' crosses with a number of papas in summer to be grown out this season.
I like the durability, 'bloomability', and lovliness of 'Painted Lady' very much.
I like brugs that bloom all the time. 'Painted Lady' flushed and singles all through summer for me and in winter, too. As well as big flushes in spring and fall.
It will be nice to see how this one turns out as she matures. She has a good start.

I agree Painted Lady is an awesome oldie but goodie! Mine has been blooming nonstop too. Nothing seems to faze her and she like to be PG lol.

Painted Lady is a 2005 introduction...not really an oldie yet but she is sure to become one as many people discover her beauty over the next couple of years.

Yes, Bonnie did a good job in creating her.

I have some NOL x Painted Lady seedlings, and pods on PL with NOL as the daddy. Hoping for good color and fragrance, double/triple, of course : )

Skirts never did drop all the way down this time. Maybe with the next flush. I do however like the flower even if it looks like a single from the sides.

I hope it drops for you. I really like the color and she is a nice shape.
Here is how my PL looked 3days ago. It froze here good (in the 20's) a few nights ago, so her top leaves are really wilted now because the cover blew off.
It seems like all the larger seedpods are going to be fine. Now I know why those seedpods are so thick-walled and some are a little fuzzy on some kinds of brugs! It protects them a little, I think.

I'm lucky I guess. One zone number away from you and I never see frost....whew!
