If anyone has a small flowerbed along the back side of their garage, would you mind posting a pic here. Thanks!
NEED PIC OF A FLOWERBED ALONG THE BACKSIDE OF A GARAGE...
Gymgirl, does it have to be beside the garage or can it be just a narrow bed along a fence? I do have some of narrow beds, but not next to garage. They are surround by concrete pool decking in front and fenced behind. Let me know if you'd like some like this.
Crow
Hey, Crowelli!
Yes, please post some pics for me! Thanks!
This is the other side and shows plumbago, chenille plant, coral vine, hibiscus, duranta. This end is even shallower at about 2 feet deep. I've tried to use vines so you can get more bang from the small space. By using vines for height, mid size shrubs for middle and then underplanting with day lilies and bulbs, you can cram a lot in a small space.
Last one. This is the fenceline bed from across the yard where you can see the whole thing. The bare spot is filled with dormant LA iris and yellow daylilies. I've probably got a pic of that somewhere here.
I hope these are of some help in stimulating your imagination. At my previous home I had a narrow space that I put a small path on and each side had ferns, impatiens, hydrangeas, etc. I tucked in a bird bath that could be seen from a window and espalliered a dwarf magnolia against the wall. It was more shaded than my spot here. Happy gardening!
Crow
Although this is not a small bed it is very narrow (20 inches or so wide) and along a fence and at the top of the retaining wall. Here I alternated white 'iceberg' roses and lavender 'angel face' roses slightly to the left of each fence post, in the center of each fence section I have a trellis with a clematis everything then underplanted with reblooming iris. Most of the season it is a wall of color.
edited to say that at the end of last season I pulled out the 'angel face' roses and replaced them with pink knockouts.

Frisco, that is a gorgeous bed. I love the color combination you have. What color are the iris?
Thank you, Crowelli and Friscoflora!
