Thanks so much for all that helpful info. It all makes perfect sense. I need to be saving what I am dumping from under my rabbit cage. Maybe I'll just dump it right into the beds.
Please, can someone offer help for my few garden dilemmas?
OH my, I'm jealous, Sally. Llama berries are a delicacy, well, in the garden anyway! That's a great treasure you have! Good going!
Yep, Cajun, save those "smart pills" your rabbits are giving you. Course now, raising earthworms under your rabbit cage is a fantastic place to create some great fertilizer. That's always a great option, too!

I have used llama poop, too. There are a few out at the horse stables and I was very excited to bring some home to my winter squashes. It is a near perfect, poop, as far as I am concerned. Most people wouldn't figure out that it was poop. No burning, just nice healthy squashes. You are in luck!
When I was a small boy in England in the '40s horses were still common in the streets of our town. We'd get daily visits from the milk float and the bread van; weekly visits from the dustmen (Am. garbage collectors), and the pig feed collector; and occasional visits from the coal man, all using horses. Many housewifes kept a bucket and shovel behind the door, and when a horse dropped its gift there was a rush to collect it, sometimes leading to a heated exchange of words.
My mum told me the story of two small boys in a queue at the grocers. First boy: 'why does your mother collect horse s***?' Second boy: 'she puts it on our rhubarb.' First boy: 'urgh! our mum puts custard on ours'.
Wow, that earthworm is almost as big as the salamander. That must be food for a week. You could easily raise earthworms under the rabbit cage if you wanted to. They would be fat and happy, as would your salamander and you could have some lovely rich garden soil for your plants ( impolitely called worm poo). Worm pooh is great for whatever plant you put it on -- at least that I have seen. Not sure if cacti would like it.
Domino eats one earthworm a week. He hides most of the time. My DH rescued Domino from the sidewalk in town where he had gone to escape the work being done in his creek. We didn't know exactly what he was so we got on the net and learned all we could. He is enjoying being inside during this awful winter cold. We will exhibit him at the fair this summer along with many of our animals. Sadly, our pet possum, Jolie' Pas passed away a year ago. We still miss her so much. Here is a pic of her on a campng trip. She went everywhere with us.
What a cutie Jolie'Pas is! Does her name mean not jolly as I surmise? I have seen possums at my place in Missippi, but I have never known one up close and personal. Nice that you rescued the salamander. He is so cute!
Jolie' Pas means not beautiful but she was beautiful to us. We loved her so much. We stop when we see a dead one on the road in Spring time to check if there are any live babies that need rescuing. That is how we got Jolie' She was only about 3" long when we got her.
We also have an Eastern Box turtle that I rescued off the road. Most times I just stop and help them get across safely but Hinge was so little I wanted to keep her for a while to give her a better chance. She is growing nicely.
I have since worked on her habitat. It has some moss and ferns in it. I also put some leaves in it and she likes to hide in them.
What a great hobby-- rescuing baby animals whose parents have been killed! They are all beautiful! Jolie was adorable.
