My Heavenly Blue from Marlon and Lady Yaguruma from Becky are producing beautiful flowers. These two ladies graciously sent me some seeds to help me get started with MGs. I planted them 11/02/08 and they germinated almost immediately.
HB has it's first flower and is loaded up with more. The white star is turning pink on the edges. Very pretty.
Lady Y has produced three flowers and is also loaded up with more.
I love walking into the room and seeing their pretty faces. Methinks they are needing bigger pots and more climbing space. My trial run has convinced me that I will have no trouble growing these gems.
Thank you ladies.

Nice blooms Jeanne
Jeanne - Those certainly would brighten a cold wintery day! They look awesome! Looks like they are pretty happy right where they are!
I am pinching the tops of my vines once they reach a certain height. (To the top of my short supports for the climbing vines.) That should make them bushier as new stems are forced to form from the bottom of the main trunk. What size pots do you have them growing in?
How beautiful! I never thought of growing them indoors.
awsome Jeanne!
They are in 5x5 in nursery pots. They are about 16 in tall at the supports. They are reaching out to everything around them. I have to keep putting them back on their own supports. I might pinch them back as you suggest Becky.
Angele, I am growing four different types indoors as a trial run to spring planting. I also have two types of hibiscus, lots of brugs, two desert roses, three egg trees and six brug seedlings. I honestly didn't expect the good results I have had and am running out of space two months before anything can go to the GH or outdoors.
I have more kinds of MG seeds from Becky and Debra and Lynn that I am excited about planting in the spring. My daughter and I are splitting them. Oh come on spring.
Question..is the white star in HB supposed to turn pink? That was a nice surprise. I also bought Grandpa Ott seeds today. It's an interesting combination of colors.
Hi Jeanne, wow, thanks for sharing your fabulous photos of your MGs!
Joseph
Take the leading tip of the vine after it grows out a couple feet and gently guide it down to a lower level of your trellis...it will then vine up the trellis again and you can keep it in control if you don't want to prune it.
hi Jeanne I have some Grandpa Ott growing out I can't wait to see the colours... welcome to the beauty vine, morning glory world!
Good point, Joseph! I should've mentioned winding the vines downward too instead of pruning them. I do that when they are in large pots outside during the growing seasons. I am suggesting ideas from my own personal experience this winter growing indoors for the first time. My window shelf isn't deep enough to loop the vines around, which is why I am planning to keep them compact and hopefully bushier at the base. But since Jeanne is growing them in larger pots in an open area, that would be a great idea! :-)
do these guys automatically produce seed inside? Or do I deadhead? Or just leave alone?
Jeanne - If you want seeds, you may have to hand pollinate them with a fine small paint brush or some other method. I do a gentle sweep inside the flower where it's reproductive parts are. If you don't want seeds, don't do anything. Chances are you will get few seeds if you don't hand pollinate. When grown outside, bees, hummingbirds, and other creatures will pollinate them for you when they go to the flowers to extract the nectar.
the fans have a large part in pollinating if on a high sweeping motion as well.. ( my observation in the light) and I have alot of those little black flying things floating around,, my begonias are producing seeds right now and those little black gnat things love it..ugh
