Hard to say Brigidlily - maybe the Duck Fairy dropped it off at the ARL, knowing they would call me...?
Ducklings - first bathtub experience
I suspect the ARL is just a shadow company for the DF, Claire. You've been had, once again, by a HUGE corporation. Ah, well. Sometimes it's nice to be had, isn't it? I trust you'll post pictures.
Hi, my name's Ann. I'm a duckaholic.
Hi Sue and Ann, I'm a duckaholic too, so I guess I can't be your sponsor.
Hi. My names Dahlianut and I'm an incognito duck.
An incognito duck?! Do you need adopting?
Claire, find out if it's a blue incognito or a buff incognito first!!! I think it's illegal to adopt the buffs. They're endangered.
Quack, quack Qulaire? (Will you make me sit on a dud egg, Claire?)
QUACK! OMG!
He looks very self confident and he has very prettiful feathers. He has a really archy neck. Is that his usual posture or is doing that cuz he's a little alarmed in a new environment?
That is the cutest photo, you sitting on the floor holding your new duck like he's a kitten or something.
He seems very docile.
Not sure about that breed of duck but "HE" does not look to have that curl on the tail feathers??????? What is "HIS" name if "HE" is a "SHE"
Very pretty!!!!
It looks like a male to me, males have a lot of red around the face.. We have them running around wild down here. I do not think that they have a curl tail feather.
Sandy
Ok was not sure
His auntie Ann loves his face, too!!!
He's not really thrilled about being held, but I can't just let him go wandering about the house. When we first got him out of the crate (from the rescue league) I had to pick him up. He was slightly calmer after being held for a while. I put him in with the younger ducklings and he flew out of the pen, causing much distress to our dog (the wimpiest greyhound ever) and then resulting in much difficulty in catching him. His wings are ***incredibly*** strong. I've got a nasty bruise on my arm to show for it! He's now in a temporary large dog kennel until it's a bit warmer and then we'll see how he does outside with the hens and roos.
Wel, the new guy looks interesting (and way bigger than the others)
Will he eventually get along and hang with the motely crew?
Claire, aren't the muscovies the flyers? Will you have to build a covered pen for him?
From what I have read, the male domestic Muscovy is not a big flier, but we have clipped his wing feathers in any case, so he is not flying anywhere right now. We'll do it once a year, just to be sure. At the moment, he's hanging out with Puffin and Stuffin, the goats.
Puffin likes to tap him on the butt.
LOL! That photo is a classic!
Oh now that is FUNNY! Bonk!
You have all the fun Claire! ;)
A friend of my DH has Muscovies and they are excellent for hatching out eggs but alas he is a she!
Love that pic w/ Puffin!
Sue - are you saying my Muscovy is a female? I thought it was a male...
Sewincircle, I sure seem to be having fun lately, but school starts tomorrow and I think my goat's ligaments went soft this morning (impending birth) and I ran out of dog food and I forgot to leave a check for my house cleaning ladies this morning, and the post office (which is closed today) called me at 7:30 to say I had 2 boxes of hatching eggs waiting for me if I could come in in the next half hour (which I did) but I have no incubator room so I'm going to have to experiment with the Brinsea Octagon 40 and see if I can make temporary sides and double layer the eggs when I get home, and oh my gosh I can hardly keep my head on straight...
Opps, no I'm not! I wouldn't know a male from a female when it comes to the Muscovies! Just throwing out info on the girls. :-) Sorry for any confusion.
Deep breath Claire. Innnnn.........Outttttt......Innnnnnn........Outttttt........!
Congrats on your doe's impending birthing. (Yeah!)
Is she separated from the rest of the herd?
She's with her sister, and Disston the Muscovy. They're all inside in our inner barn stall with heat lamps.
This should be interesting for the duck! Hopefully she's not a screamer. We've only had one goat that was ear-piercingly vocal during labor. She could be heard for a mile! I can just imagine what the neighbors were thinking. :-) lol! They're usually quiet, thankfully.
The duck tries to stay out of their way. Puffin likes to try to play with him but he tends to be less interested in that than she is! I think he will just kind of stand back and watch. So far he has not been even remotely aggressive with them when they approach him, or even snapped at her when she pats his bum. He just huffs at them.
Well -that pic was a thing of beauty!!! Congrats on the impending birthings...
That pic is priceless!
Oh Claire, that kinda takes away from the fun when you have a storm of OMG.
Everything has a way of working through. I start school Thursday, when my babies are due!
I sure hope you are home when your mama gives birth! I know you wouldnt want to miss out on that event! I will be thinking of you. (and the little mommy to be) More eggs huh? How many are you hatching??? I thought 15 was rough. ;) You are an organized woman and will pull everything off and look good while doing it. I just know you will. Keep us updated on the events!
♥
