Agastache

(Clint) Medina, TN(Zone 7b)

I have several different Agastache seed packets. Have any of you winter sown any of these? I just want to have an idea if it works for this plant or if I should just wait till Spring. Thanks for your answers!

I wintersowed Agastache 'Shades of Orange' last year. These were seeds that I had collected myself. It did eventually come up even though the germination percentage wasn't great..the good news is that it bloomed the first year and appeared true to type.
Perhaps you could try a few each way? I'm sure that there are others that have more experience with them than I do:)

I winter sowed "Blue Licorice" agastache the last two years. It was easy to germinate and the bees and butterflies love it.

This photo left to right. columbine, "Blue Licorice" agastache, Siberian iris (seed pods), and perennial sweet peas on the fence. All winter sown.

Thanks. I think I'll winter sow half the packets and plant the rest in the spring. Maybe I'll have so many I can trade them. I have none now. I have been told so many good things about them. I can't wait till spring.

Sure, you can wintersow anything.

I too have various Agastaches ... all have germinated well, and first year bloomers to boot.

I sewed a bunch of agastache Golden Jubilee back in early Jan. I think everyone of them germinated. I'm gonna have LOTS of GJ !

I still need to sew my ag.Liq.Blue and White. and I have a few seeds from trade of "Apache Sunset"(not sure that correct name until I look)to sew yet.

red -- that's good to know about GJ. I've get a bunch [not a lot but enough] seeds to WS this year... i've been trying to get to it this week - but i've been so dang busy. Hopefully today... right when the warm weather hits. [oh, and warm here, is anything above freezing.... though we are expecting 50's and rain ... tomorrow i think - good to melt some of this snow]

we're suppose to be in hi-60's for the rest of the week but cloudy. That won't stop me from working in the GH but I sure do need to get some work done in veg. garden and yard.

I winter sowed Golden Jubilee too. I hope they come up!

Conneaut, OH(Zone 5a)

I WS Golden Jubilee for the first time last year and they came up great. Had so many in one jug that I have tried to remember not to put so many seeds in one container this year.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm planning on sowing some of these as well.

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

Last year I wintersowed Agastache Honeybee Blue and Honeybee White, and they were some of the most vigorous, healthy plants I started that year! They'll do great!

I never knew agastache came in so many colors and sizes! I'd never even heard of it until Critter sent me some seeds last winter. Looks like I need to explore the world of agastaches more fully!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I was amazed as well. Diane's Seeds has a nice variety - http://www.dianeseeds.com/agastache.html

I was reading about Golden Jubilee.... and it's said to plant it with plants with red foliage for a great color combination....

what does everyone plant with theirs... if you have GJ?

the only things i have with red is Aranthrus and celiosa.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I don't have any - this will be my first year. So I'm interested in what everyone has to say.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6a)

You'll love 'em Anita. They draw bees and hummingbirds like crazy, tolerate heat and drought, and bloom for a long time. I haven't had any disease or insect problems either. The purple pygmy smells just like bubble gum.

cool. Looking forward to them in the garden.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

I have winter sown Golden Jubiliee, Honey Blue, and Honey White Agastache - they were all easy and all bloomed in their first year.

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

After reading all this, I have to get some of the pygmy purple for the garden at church and the others for my daughter's big hill, it sounds lovely.
