Shady spot: need shrub for visual barrier

Hi fellow CA Native gardeners,

I am picking my brain for a CA native (or a drought tolerant equivalent) that will enjoy the pretty heavy shade, be evergreen, grow to about 4 or 5 feet, moderately fast growing and not be a solid screen but still a visual barrier. I think of an Abutilon which is not native... please help! Does it exist?

I got 32 plants to pop up when I did the search for Shade and Shrub on Yerba Buena's site.

There are several that meet your height requirements, so you might be able to get some ideas.
