Mini's and micro-mini's

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I still think my concinna is mislabeled and is a pusilla--time will tell--I'm at work--will post a pick later today.

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

mrsbonnie will be able to tell you right away.

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

This is my S.concinna--I think. Goldleaf-- I thought I read somewhere that S. bright eyes was hard to get seeds from--mine is covered with pods-- do you know if they will be viable?

sinningia Bright Eyes...This hybrid is supposedly sterile but if it produces seeds they will not be true.
Gran, I would sow the seeds you have to see what if anything results. Interesting to find out.

HBG and GL, wow that sinnigia concinna is beautiful!! Can anyone tell me how much moisture sinnigias like? I would like to put one in a goldfish bowl?? Or would something else do better?

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

My micro-mini sinns are actually in a gold fishbowl! LOL. They seem to like it--they are near a north window, with a little additional light from lamp.

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Mine are in 20 oz solo cups in my light stand-- I am looking for cuter containers--just haven't found any yet. The S. Bright Eyes was actually on the shelf with all the AV's etc at Dave's Violets--but since I heat with wood I think(know) my environment is drier-- so put it in a cup. My bigger sinns are on the shelves with everything else. They sure are pretty and diverse-- I could get seriously hooked if they were easier to come by!!

Hi All;
I think i have all the micro's, or at least most of them..most people do grow them in terriums, but i do both, they can be wicked just like the big ones.so some i have are wicked & some are in terriums.that looks like bright eyes you have there.they are really quite easy to grow.give it a go.they just look like they would be hard.lol

ok ok you all talked me into it! HAHAHA!! so, now where is a good place to purchase? Or does anyone on here want to sell me a couple? Since they will be my first, I'm truly not picky, let me know how much you would want for one or two, or we could do a trade either way is fine by me. If not, just tell me where to get my hands on them!!! I did not see any at VB

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Check out this site--I don't think they are shipping now--but they have a good selection.

LOL--chasing you all around here Laura ^_^

(Zone 1)

Uh oh ... I think I'm in trouble! I love the micro mini's sinningia's. They seem to do so well for me as long as they are grown under glass! I think I have to stick with growing them in a terrarium situation because I tried growing two I got in trades just in pots and they both croaked!

I still have two micro mini's S. pusilla and S. Rio das pedras growing in glass jar terrariums and they have always done so well. I'm thinking that when I tear down my 10 gallon aquarium/terrarium in the next couple of months, I may plant it with micro mini's and nothing else!

... going to check out Belisles website now! Have paper and pen handy to start my "wish" list! If my list gets too long I will just blame it on Hillbilly_Gran for giving us that link! ^_^

Highland, IL

Plantladyin: Hey you gotta watch that Hillbilly gran!! She got me interested in those epicasias!! She is an enabler for sure!!! Question, do you have lights on your minis or just near a window?

HBG: I think you caught me on Dmail!! HA! How far are you from Daves? I'm like 3 1/2 hours.

I have my micro mini sinningia's on my lighted stands. One is growing in a little wine glass and one in a little glass jar. I think I have one teeny one growing in a bottle cap too ... need to look for that one as I don't recall seeing it recently, LOL. So teeny it sometimes gets lost on the stand. I used to keep saran wrap over the tops but the moisture build up got to be too much so now I just leave them open most of the time.
