January Hoyas

Here is a closeup of the leaves. Remember, this is an exoticangel plant so it may have been mismarked. I have only had it about 4 or 5 months.........

Gessigail,

That is Hoya polyneura, and if you can keep this one going my hat is off to you. Yours looks great; I could not grow that one (and believe me I've tried) to save my life.

I am going to put a piece of marker on her right now. A friend told me (from Maryland) to be sure and keep this plant (polyneura) very moist all the time so I have done that. She isn't growing very fast because it isn't spring and summer yet. I will keep you posted.

Wow Doug,

If I ever get another multiflora I am going to grow
it like that!

Mine just randomly died. That looks like the
solution.

I have my little hoya book I ordered. I looked up polyneura and the book said they grow in the cool forests at high elevations. In order to bloom and do well they need extended cool periods and never try to propagate them in hot humid conditions. Interesting.

When I was outside, checking for more frozen or distressed hoya, I found this little speckled lacunosa. The leaves don't look to good, so I brought her inside. She is now hanging in the bathroom from the shower rod. She has one little peduncle. I hope she survives.

How pretty, Imadigger!

Hmmmmm, interesting. The only way I can grow polyneura is to grow it dry...cold and spit at it randomly!!!!

WE said the same thing, Carol. Cool forest like conditions. I didn't say anything about hot except that the book said don't try and propagate polyneura in hot humid conditions.

H polyneura....Mines in a wire basket, cool evenings at the moment and it dries out completely before I soak it...very free draining mix..seems to be doing well.....so far

Much of Wennstroms' instructions for growing are not my experience - and I think so much depends on where/how/etc. we grow our own. I can tell people how I grow mine and if it is happy or not...but I can't tell them how to grow theirs....(or I try not to...lol)

I am thrilled to have this book.......really helps me. We aren't all in the same zones which makes a big difference in growing any plant.

I thought everyone on the hoya thread was really touting this book. I have given it as a gift to a lot of commerical hoya growers I know in Texas.

Then they should have no problems as he does mention where the plant is from and they(we) can get the growing conditions from it. YES, it is a good book.
