Would have been a lot better if I had found out where they went! But thanks.
Time to Settle in for the Winter? 2
Well, maybe it depends on what kind of species tulips you get. I do know that Darwin hybrids come up well for many years. I have a few, and they always look good.
Dryer lint can be composted? I didn't even think about that. I think it would make good nesting material for birds. Great for rodents, too (for one who has kept mice and rats as pets, I should know).
I posted this on another thread, but wanted to post here, too. I just saw the best movie ever! It's called Slumdog Millionaire, and was filmed and takes place in India. Wonderful storytelling and beautifully filmed. Very sad and also funny, even when it shouldn't be. Plenty of action and romance. Never a dull moment. Everyone loves to see the underdog win, especially if that underdog is honest and good.
Carrie, I can't believe people would throw out good daffodil bulbs. Terrible!
Karen
Yes, dryer lint can be composted (although I'm not sure it is in my house) and yes, it is sad about the daffodils. I don't really know what to do about that... hmm. I've seen reviews for Slumdog Millionaire, but you're the first person I know whose actually seen it!
Excellent movie, Carrie. See it if you have a chance and like to go to the movies.
Karen
I'll wait until it comes out on video - I like to watch from bed! So cozy!
I like going to the movies. Don't have a TV in my bedroom. Our TV in the living room is small. I like seeing things on a big screen with surround sound. Can't get that here at my house.
Karen
Weird - that surround sound deal kind of scares me, makes me nervous. Plus I'm always chilly in movie theaters! Ah . . . to each her own. (We have one small dark TV set in the bedroom only.)
5 TV's. Living room 52" with SS. Bedroom old but gets all the good stuff. Then 3 in the garages.
The one in the bedroom husband cant touch the flicker.
I can be sound asleep and he changes the channel, I will take it right out of his hand basically still sleeping. He dont touch that flicker NO more!
No bathroom tv's?
They do keep those theaters at sub zero temps.
and I'm one of those people who is a nuisance because I'm always cold - I finally gave up on $8 movie tickets. Plus I can never tell the bad guys from the good guys! I'm not fun to take to the movies.
I'm jealous, Sherrie!!!!! I would go to the movies much if I had a set-up like that at my place.
I'm going to a movie again tonight. The movie theater in Hanover, Patriot Cinemas, has Super Tuesdays, where it's $5 all day. Their matinee price is $6. I don't normally go to evening shows, though I heard you can get, through AAA, a package of tickets for $6 each, so I may purchase that and can use them if I want to see an evening show.
Karen
You can get cheaper tix through AAA, but you have to plan ahead.
We used to have a cheap theater in Franklin (MA), but they sadly sold out to condo units a few years ago.
Sue, sounds like a lot of places are selling out to condo units these days. That's what happened to Paragon Park, the amusement park at Nantasket Beach. I used to love going there when I was younger. I have heard that the Independence Mall in Kingston might go that way in the future.
Oh, in my post above, I meant to say that I would "not" go to the movies much if I had a setup like that.
Karen
Who do they expect will be able to buy condos, anymore?
You have a point there, Carrie!
Karen
I mean really?!
I would prefer a house. Can't have a garden at a condo!!!!
Karen
Yup.
Tomorrow we start the 2nd month of the year! Just 2 more months to go and we can start playing in the dirt!
Woo hoo!!!!! I can't wait! In March I will be definitely itching to get out there and get things done.
Karen
Back to dryer lint--Grandson used it to start campfire for his boy scout 'pioneer' badge.
Oh, good idea! We could use it for kindling in our wood stove!
Karen
I try to compost it, I mean it's on the "yes" list but I'm not always there to rescue it!
Michaela - I'm playing in the dirt today! Cooking my dirt in the microwave to prevent damping-off, then potting my cuttings. Takes so long, though: 10 minutes to cook, 10 to steam, then cool down. Then I get to plant!
Alas - my DH ABSOLUTELY refuses to have the scent of sterilizing soil in the house. You are so lucky.
I am supposed to be writing a lecture on univariate analysis. sigh . . .
Whatever that is . . .
LOL! Sue ^_^
Suppose we could look it up....
it's actually quite simple - it's like doing bar charts and pie charts for a single variable.
And things like measurement of central tendencies - for example, taking the average, or measurement of spread - like the standard deviation.
The nice thing for my students is that the computers will calculate all this stuff now. Back in the dark ages when I first studied this stuff we actually had to calculate it - but then we had calculators and the profs thought we were slackers.
I can even remember being taught how to use a slide ruler!
I remember slide rules! The really really smart kids had them! I did not have one...
I had one only because we were required to learn how to use it - grade 8, I think. By grade nine everyone had calculators.
Anyway, I still have a book called "How to Use a Slide Ruler" - just in case of the total collapse of civilization as we know it. Of course, it would be a lot more useful if I actually had a slide ruler. I wonder if you can even buy one anymore . . . .
My DH takes his in to show his students, and tells them he went to school BC. (before calculators).
Now that's funny!
Nowadays you're supposed to say B.C.E. - "Before Calculator Era."
Why?
b/c!
because BCE stands for before common era.
I'll stick with BC. :)
