White American Beautyberry

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

I just cleaned a load of seed from my white American Beautyberry and wondered if anyone knows if plants from these seeds will produce the white berries also? Also, does anyone know the average germination time? I left some berries on the bush for the birds (although they seem to prefer the purple ones more) and to naturally reseed.

It's not a hybrid so on its own it should come true from seed, but if you had the purple ones in the area too and they cross-pollinated then there's no guarantee.

Yep have a purple right next to it. Will have to grown some out I guess to find out. Who knows what will develop.

well,I know they germinate all over the darn place outside 'cause I'm always having to weed out seedlings

Up till recently, I have kept a thick layer of mulch around mine and I haven;t has volunteers. I just removed the mulch from under the white one as I want more white seeded plants.

since you have both colors close,I'd say you'll get a cross

Well I'm going to start some today so we'll see. Any idea on germination time?

Budgie... If you don't find vounteers in yoru yard start lookign aroudn the neighbors. I started out 15 years ago with one tiny Beauty Berry I thought was a weed and never somehow year after year pulled it out and it grew and grew.

Every year I have volunteers that not onyl com ein my yard but next door had to cut down almost 100 vulnteers in his yard. Since he didn't dig them up, they just popped all right back up again.

Not sur eon th egermination time, cuz I just let mine lay out for winter on the groudn and don't mow that are a and next thing I know I have volunteers all over and wilhave volunteer sin any area that not disturbed from the birds eatign the seed and droppign them wherever they leave their droppings.

Pain in th erump the sedlinsg but when they bloom and see all the color and the birds enjoyign them then I guess it worth it. : )
