I want to plant some morning glories inside my classroom at school. I have a bank of windows a little over half way up the wall almost to the ceiling. Morning sun only. I thought that I would run string around the windows and plant 2 mgs to run around them. I need some that are somewhat well behaved. I have enough experience with the aggressive ones ie Star of Yelta, Grandpa Ott and Heavenly Blue to know that those are most likely ones to steer clear of. So which ones should I consider? I'm not sure of the dimensions of my windows but as I said I'd like to find one or 2 that I could train around or up and around. Of course they'd have to be able to thrive in a pot as well.
Any suggestions? I need common names as I'm pretty much illiterate about the genus and such. I have several seed packets collected but since I plant them around outside I haven't paid attention as to which ones did what. lol I just enjoyed the flowers. I thought the kiddos might like to have something blooming before May inside the classroom. As a language teacher it would also be something to spark conversation. What do y'all think?

inside mgs question
Anne - Great idea! I would plant any MGs that are Ipomoea nil. They are much better behaved and probably won't grow out of control in the window. I am growing some in my window at home. Steer clear of the I. purpurea as they are the more aggressive growing MGs. Just make sure to plant them in white pots (to reflect the heat) and water them regularly. And Bloom Booster fertilizer will give them a kick to get the roots growing and the bud production going! Good luck!
AuntAnne that sounds so cool, good luck to you.. I m glad you have chosen MGs to plant!
I have some blue picotee that I recently got from Trish Ann and will look through my box of treasures for some that I got from Emma last year. I'm hoping will still be viable. I planted some but not all.
Anne
P.S. school colors are green and white but I'd like something a bit more colorful
The Blue Picotee (I. nil) would be a good indoor plant. It usually doesn't get too long. And the blooms are cute and unusual. MG seeds usually stay viable for many years provided they are stored in a dry, cool place.
Oh great; now must go hunt down so I. nils and start some inside. Luckily I have lights running 16 hours a day now for my orchid collection. Surely I can squeeze an MG or two in there... :)
