Hi! I planted MG's for the first time last year. Will they come back from the vine, or will I have to reseed? Or will they reseed themselves? I put lattice around the evaporative cooler and planted three varieties. They were beautiful! (I have lived in Southern Nevada 25 years and have never seen the temp below 10 degrees F.)
I want them again!
Well, that all depends. If they were Ipomoea purpurea vines, I'd say they most definitely will come back. But if they were I.nils, the possibility is not as promising. Though .. depending on your winter temps ... if it is mild winters where you are, you may get some new vines in Spring/Summer even if they are I. nils. Did you get hit by the cold front with those amazing low temps?
Thanks for the reply beckygardener. I purchased the packets of seed from the local hardware store and they have no Latin names, only Milky Way, Grandpa Ott and Heavenly Blue. I am new to gardening, I have wanted to for many years but didn't have the time. It looks like I have some researching to do.
Those are I. purpureas. You WILL have more next year! They reseed like crazy! Not to worry! :-) Heavenly Blue is an I. tricolor. That one I am not sure about ... maybe someone else here knows more about how it's seeds handle cold winters ...
