What Wierd (and Cold) Weather We Have #8

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Good luck with the flooding! Great for friends and neighbors in times of need. Quick thinking about the levy.
Love the look of your 'pond' Sally.
LBF - hope the water situation gets under control soon. That has got to be frustrating to say the least.

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

I agree with rc!

Just looked at the soapbox racers. What fun!!!

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Nice looking cars in that race. Looks like fun.

rc-hope most of your troubles with water are over.

Sally-My DH has an aunt buried in Canyonville. We always said we should stop in and find her when we went by on our way to Palm Springs. Never did it.

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I just jumped on for a couple min. so I just scanned, but wanted to let everyone know there is nothing wrong, just don't have the kids to force me onto the computer and I have new toys to play with.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

New Toys To Play With????????????
Laura!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

They got new computer games for Christmas...........

Thanks to all again! Things are looking much better now that the rain has stopped and the mud had some time to dry a little. I had to work today and didn't get over to my neighbors to take "after" pictures. I talked to them though. They said that so far things are looking good and stable and the water level has dropped a little. They have someone coming over tomorrow to start removing the almost 4' of mudd that is up against the back side of their basement and, depending on what time I get off work, i may start on clearing some of the branches that are leaning on the house. If it stays dry I'll likely try to take cement up to reinforce the new path for the creek. So, with any luck, they'll might be getting back to normal by the end of the weekend. Well, at least as close to normal as they'll be able to be. And since it has been dry, the river behind me has dropped a little over a foot! Wahoo!!!!

Ladybug, is there any prediction from anyone on when you might have water? It's been quite a long time now. That's not fun at all, but you're handling it well.

Laurie - feel free to interject with fun, whimsicle stuff at any time! :-p

Willow - you still have time to stop in Canyonville. I think that it's a pretty town.

Sally, sounds like you need a harness for those garbage cans. But, it didn't give me a funny vision of someone chasing down tumbling cans.

Laura, glad that you checked in. It's unusual to not hear from you every so often.

Eugene, OR

Laurie....thanks for giving us something to laugh at. That looks like a lot of fun.

Ladybug...so sorry you still don't have water, that has to be very frustrating.

rc..... I need to put something in it! The other one just moves a little bit. If you think that would look funny, you should see me using the tree trimmer to try and snag something that has blown into the deep water. Glad things are looking better for your neighborhood.

It was quite here today, no wind, just a few sprinkles and the water is going down. Yeah!!

Laura....New Games!! What games?

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Lol Sally, another good vision of you chasing something into the pond. I guess it's fortunate that it's not there much during the summer! Glad to hear that your end of the river is looking good as well. Lookout res. is looking like a lake that is just a little low now, instead of the usual river that it looks like this time of year. I'm very appreciative of the break in rain to give it a chance to drain some before the next system moves in.

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Sally, Little Big Planet is the one we've all been playing. Sage got Sonic unleashed. We also got a bunch of DVDs. I'm doing my B-day party tomorrow so I need to clean the house. Finally, I have books I haven't read since High School. I'm going to get Spore (computer game) with a gift cert. I got for Christmas.

Eugene, OR

Thank you. Have to check those out. I'm ready for something new. Figured if it was fun enough to distract you from DG, it must be good.

Wishing Everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year!!

Computer has been acting up, verrrry sloooow. I just saw those pictures of the river flooding by your house, redchick. That is really scary that it came up so fast, but great that so many pitched in to help.

The snow is all gone here except for the mountains of it piled up in the grocery store parking lot. I've had power and water the whole time, for which I am very grateful. I feel for those who have been without, especially during the holiday time.

Happy New Year, everyone!! Laurie, I suppose I'm several hours late and you are already well into 2009.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Wishing all of you a very safe and Happy New Year..........may 2009 be a much better year for us all!!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Most definitely a happy new year and best wishes to all. My it get all of us closer to where ever we are trying to get to!

Thanks for the kind thoughts Mauryhill. My neighbors and I are all very grateful for the people that helped out in the really cold, wet weather, and mud. They deserve a Medal! Fortunately, really very fortunately, that was not the river behind my place that caused the mess. That was/is a lowly little seasonal creek! It is typically nothing more than a little trickle that runs beside my place from around Nov. through June. The river behind me has stayed within it's boundaries, although high, fast, and full of debris. We've watched many tree's , roots and all, go down the river that last few days. It sort of causes an uneasy feeling to see them go downstream whole!
I'm glad to hear that all of your snow has gone. that must be nice!! And hopefully it keeps leaving gradually.

Thanks Trishia!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Shelly, glad to hear the river is behaving for the most part, your little creek seems to have done enough damage by itself...........hope things go well during the next few fronts coming through, at least in our area we are supposed to get some more heavy rain over the next few days. I am really, really tired of bad weather and it isn't even January for a few more minutes......!!!!

Haaaaappppppyyyyyyy Neeewwww Yearrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I agree Trisha!! We're crossing our fingers as the rain is starting again. I hope that it goes well for everyone. I don't think that there's anyplace in the PNW that is ready for much more rain. However for now... It's onward to a New Year!

Shall we start over with a new weird weather thread for the new year or maybe when this thread is getting too long? Any thoughts?

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

New one for the New Year might be good.....Happy New Year All....Need to finish with the vac and get food started...have anywhere from 20-50 bicycle riders (the ones nuts enough to go out in this weather) due to start showing up in less than an hour....I am not ready for it this year, Have a miserable cold and would just like to go back to bed given my choice.

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

I have 3 or 4 more inches of snow this morning. The wind is beginning, no rain yet. Had to cancel dinner plans for today as well. This is also my 25th wedding anniversary. Happy 2009 everyone! Wish you all happiness and contentment.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

To the both of you as well!

What sort of cycling event do you having going on today Tricia? That's a lot of people!

Congratulations on the anniversary Willow! and my condolensces on the snow. Ok, unless you were wanting more of it for some reason. But, I'm guessing that you weren't really wanting more of it since you had to cancel your dinner plans.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Happy Anniversary, Willow. May there be many more. Sorry you had to cancel plans.

Hope the event went well. It's no fun when you're feeling ill. Hope you feel better soon.

Happy New Year all!!!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Happy New year to you as well Jan!!

Carnation, WA(Zone 7b)

Happy New Year everyone! Happy Anniversary Willow, sorry about the snow and your dinner plans. We're hybernating today, playing games, eating favorite foods and watching HOCKEY and Football, it feels like home.

Trisha, hope you feel better soon and your ready for your guests when they arrive. Sounds like a great party.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Happy Happy Willow, sorry about dinner.

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

Yes, let's start a new thread!

Bummer about dinner, Willow. My 22nd anniversary was on 12/27. We didn't really plan anything so no need to cancel. ;) Happy anniversary to both of us!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Yes let 2008 go away. LOL
And a better New Year for us all 2009
Amen

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Happy New Year and Happy Anniversaries to all!!!! It Is Over!!!!! Laura and Sage came over and helped with last minute prep for the Bike Club Party....Sage takes the dog to her room and stays supplied with food, movies and ice water! The dog is old and gets nippy in large unfamiliar groups....this works well as they are both happy with the arrangement and it keeps them out from under foot. No problems on the ride this year...lots of good food and everyone appeared to have a good time.......I stayed dosed up on Nyquil so I survived the day and I may not move again until tomorrow!! If the weather will settle down maybe we can all get back to normal and a much improved New Year!

LBF......hibernating sounds like a great thing!

Eugene, OR

Gwendalou and Willow...Congratulations on your anniversary...wishing you many more!

Trisha....Glad you had help and your event went well, now take care of that cold! I had one too, I think it goes with this weather. Really nice picture.

Water is staying about the same. We're still getting rain and wind, the forecast is for snow on Saturday, but then back to rain.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Well, I guess that it's good that things stayed about the same Sally, that's better than going up anyhow. My water is at least running a prestine aqua color now. I wish that I had had time to took a picture of it today. I will have a chance to tomorrow, however I think it's going to be running mud again. Oh well, at least for today it all stayed even for us!

Shokami..... where/how are you? I've heard that the coast is getting flooding in areas. hopefully not in your area.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I recieved this poem from a fun group I belong to thought you might like it too.

Oh, how I love Washington
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave Washington
`Cause I'm frozen to the ground!

Here is a picture of My yard from my front Porch
Happy New Year and a successful 2009

yes. Snow, Ick. But, so far it is pretty lite, which is good.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

WE got about an inch last night but it warmed up, turned to rain and the streets were all clear this morning. Had some pretty good wind along with it. It was nice and sunny until about half an hour ago, now it is clouding up and getting breezy again......see what we get now.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

are you expecting a windstorm the same as us? I think that it's supposed to hit a fairly broad area.
