A small change to this forum

My question was not in regards to any one person I was just wondering how it works. I don't get this computer thing at all.

I think it is a matter of being fair and friendly and not hurtful. If it is perpetually hurtful then it is wrong. So times things are said that may be taken wrongly but that is not the issue. It is those who try to make trouble that is the problem. I always look at both sides of a issue and try to think about what is said before I answer. If we keep an open mind and think first we will be alright. I know that my brain and finger and tongue are not always connected so what I want to say and what comes out is not always the same.

We can have fun with out it hurting anyone.

I just don't want somebody that was banned to simply pay to get back on. If they were banned (twice) they must have done something pretty wrong. I may not understand computers well but I do get that my brain, tongue and finger are going at different speeds. I really try to understand that this is a discussion between many people and try to stick to the thread topic, for me that works best. I also have a wicked sense of humour but I realize that when I'm talking to somebody face to face there is less chance of a misunderstanding. When the words are just typed in with no body language of facial expressions there is a better chance of things being taken out of context.

Banning is done by banning the IP address that a person like Dave has access to...It has nothing to do with Motherboards or Hard drives...I am not a techie either, but this much I do know...I can say I live in Costa Rica, but Dave will know that I live in Downtown Ohio just by the IP address...

I think any further discussion of the people involved needs to cease... Names should never have been mentioned in the first place, and as you can see from Daves first post, he judiciously avoided doing so, and I think that needs to continue...All it is doing is stiring the pot, and I think the pot has been stirred enough...

I agree i just wanted opinions on the chatter and what they thought was okay so i would know if i was being to talkative sometimes and off topic which i'm very guilty of...

My IP address changes as it is NATted, so that is not a full proof method which could be how someone can slip back in.

I don’t think chatter is all bad. I am silly and serious at times. There is a lot to each and every person on here. That is what I like about it. I love the personalities that have come out in everyone. Everyone has something to offer. If there is something you don’t care for, it’s your prerogative to "skip to new" or scroll away. I am not trying to make light either. It’s the truth. I love what this forum has to offer.

i run a website with a forum else where, to add more to the admin question. u can ban a person by there user id, email or isp. isp is a cross between ur server and ur computer and it can locate u and any admin, mod or board owner with those powers can know everything u do it is logged on a security feature. (i mean what u do on that site specifically, they can't see what u r doing anywhere else).

here a certain person was banned but not by isp, now they have been banned by isp also since it has continued in all honesty all 3 ways can be bypassed to still gain access. on my site this one kid i have litterally banned him for 24+ times and he is so annoying,lol but still comes back and i ban isp everytime. isp change is harder to crack but easy as pie if u know what u r doing. anytime someone posts uses different isp it's all logged so even if an admin is not watching i promise they can still come back to check on ya. i don't mean to scare anyone i just want u to know it's how we(people who own or run forums) keep the forums safe and protect u as a community and whole. so if someone thinks they can pull the wool over someone's eyes they r wrong security logs will tell the trueth.

Our rules are that if a person is banned, they aren't welcome to come back with a new username. When we find someone who comes in "the backdoor" so to speak by signing up with a new username, we obviously do everything we can to block them from returning.

You have a handle on it Dave, and that is all that matters...

Dave, I'm not sure if you can do it but another website does something really different. If they ban someone from their website and that someone tries to get on with a new username, that person is automatically sent to the walt disney site. They basically copy the isp number I believe and put something on it to make it to where anyone who gets banned goes there. Just an idea.

Just a note -- when you're posting, before you hit send, read what you've written. IF it could be taken wrong, put a little smiley face by it. People can't hear your inflection when they read. And remember the REAL gardener's rule -- you reap what you sow!

We have in the past blocked people by IP address, but it's always only temporary until they are assigned a new one by their ISP. We have other technical means to ban people but I won't publicly say what they are. :-)

Without any spaces, use your ^ key, then your _ key then your ^ key again and you got it.

dave, you do realize that you've developed a very effective means of social control, don't you? Only the worst miscreants would fail to "straighten up" at the thought of losing access to Dave's Garden. Time outs and taking the car keys away are no where near as effective.

See I get sick for a few days and everything changes....
