Compared to what I read in the news, someone pulling up Nelly Moser doesn't sound all that tragic, no matter how I try to selfishly paint it. It was frustrating, undeniably so.

Very nice coreopsis and gaillardia!! Those are some nice shots, N4D!!

Here is a late afternoon picture of the pond as summer started winding down. The sun seems so warm. I still laugh that I made the pond out of a "garbage bag!!" "Real" liner is on order.

Maybe I can cajole Victor into posting more shots of his nice pond. ^_^

Nice pond, Willie! I can't believe you used a garbage bag, either. Must have been a very big bag and a heavy duty one at that.

Here is my blue flax that died on me.

Thanks! It was really a tarpaulin I bought at Valu Hardware Store for $20.00 .....

But, don't tell anyone ..... then, EVERYone will want one!!!

:-)

I have always liked both Johnson's Blue and flax .... flax looks so delicate and fragile, to start. Anything blue can find its way into my yard, any time!

I miss having cosmos in the yard, so that will be started again this spring .... They were originally planted in a garden in front of the greenhouse, but the Mulberry (which has been hacked way back this winter) overgrew that entire garden and not much grows there anymore ..... well, this spring things will grow. :-)

What a great idea for a pond liner, Willie! I'm sure it won't last as long as one that is specifically made for ponds, though. I was thinking of making my pond bigger this year, but if I can't afford a liner I may do your tarp idea for now. Here is my pond. It's about 4'x6' and only 15" deep. Would like to make a deeper and bigger one and have some fish. I tired goldfish in this one, but I think the local herons ate them.

That pond sure is picturesque, N4D.

I got the idea to use tarpaulins from a friend who did it first. I might suggest to DOUBLE layer the tarp, just in case. I know it takes a while for UV to degrade the tarp, as I had to use them on the roof for a while when repairs were being made. On the roof, the tarps were water tight through the summer and winter, but only for one season's use. Not sure how much UV gets to the bottom of the pond.

If you expand the pond and want to add fish, you might go over to the Water Garden forums and see everyone's opinion on having a lot of rocks and stones in there to harbor bacteria.

I haven't had any trouble with my pond, so far (knocking wood) but, I have been prone to beginner's luck!

Don't know yet if I will have fish. I have to keep the herons away or provide a way for the fish to hide from them. I will check the water garden forums when I get ready to expand my pond and put fish in. Right now I have enough trouble keeping up with all the threads I'm reading. Will not be able to keep up like this in the summer.

Very nice. I like all the oranges ..... I am working on more color here.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Wow! Lots has been going on on this thread!

Good gosh now I want a pond!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Victor, could you start in the lower left and work up to the upper right with the names of the plants there? Pretty please. I LOVE< LOVE< LOVE those oranges. Did I mention that I LOVE those oranges? Did you get any of them from Fairweather Gardens by chance? If so, I will have to visit at their Open House in the spring, whenever I find out when that will be.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Victor those pictures of the pond are great - i agree with jan on id'ing everything.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Okay. The dark green conifer is Cryptomeria Black Dragon. Immediately behind it is Fothergilla Mt. Airy. Above is the red JM - Tamukeyama, which sits atop the waterfall. The blue spruce behind that is about 20 feet away. Back to the bottom - near the center is the weeping JM, Washi no o. Immediately above (in the pond) is a water grass.

To the immediate right of the red JM is Itea Saturnalia - though it is about 15 feet away. The tall slender grass to its right is calamagrostis Karl Foerster. To the right of that is another Fothergilla Mt. Airy.Going down and to the right from there is a dwarf blue spruce and a Hosta June. Above the hosta, practically glowing, is Enkianthus perulatus. Continuing straight up is Physocarpus Coppertina, Viburnum Blue Muffin and, finally, the dawn redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides Ogon).

The purple to the right of the enkianthus is the callicarpa (beautyberry) berries. To the extreme right of the photo is a part of oakleaf hydrangea Snowflake.

Think that covers it!

Loved the fall scene with all the oranges.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

There are more reds at other times. Fothergilla ranges from red to orange to yellow.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I was too shy to ask for listings!! Glad others aren't!! Ha!

Thanks, Victor.

Usually I'm shy, too, but did I mention that I LOVE those oranges?
Many thanks, Victor.
Any from Fairweather?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, Jan - most are from Fairweather.

Oh my you all have been busy. Love all your pics of blooms Karen. Then there are all these beautiful shots of ponds and fall shrubs with calm waters and blasting bright colors at the screen. Great stuff everybody.

Getting kind of long, go to here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/940489/
