Pink Rambler/Pink Star

Toronto, ON(Zone 5b)

Hi guys,

got a big trade and received seeds that were labeled "Pink and Blue Star" which I thought were I. tricolors but soon found out that they are purpureas from an "Old Fashioned" Mix

I'm wondering if the purpurea "Pink Star" is the same as "Pink Rambler"?

Thank you for the welcome back joseph! I can't go without the forums people help out alot here before buying into more seeds you know -_-.

Dany your pictures are awesome! Karen's pink mg looks cute with the pointed petals =). I didn't know that there is a light pink bloom in the carnaval de Venize though... also didn't know that there are so many variants in pink in I. purpurea -_-.

There are many shades of 'pink'...most have the gene for spotting which produces the darker coloration along the primary folds, but much less commonly there is a relatively solid color with no gene for spotting...

The darker pinks have usually been relegated to 'Crimson Rambler' and the lighter pinks to the 'Pink Rambler'...

'Pink Star' is somebodies 'homegrown' pet marketing name...

The light pink and other regular appearing colors out of the flaked strain are usually the same colors that were present in the strain before they got 'flaked'...so,the non flaked patterns can appear along with flaked >on the same vine,or there could be non-flaked phenotype carrying for flaked and flaked phenotype carrying for non-flaked...

The list of genes by Kyushu unfortunately seems tailored for Ipomoea nil and does not include genes that are more usually associated with Ipomoea purpurea...
