This is the first season I have caladiums in my garden, and I was wondering what is the lowest temperature they can tolerate? I usually leave everything in the ground over here but these guys are starting to look unhappy....
I'm in sunset zone 24 (coastal so Cal).
Thanks!
Roberta
Caladiums
I think they'll be fine--Plant Files lists them to USDA zone 9a and you're well above that...the leaves might suffer a bit from frost but the plants themselves shouldn't die and should come back again next year.
I knew you would have an answer form me, lol! Thank you so much Ecrane! : )
Isn't she a great font of wisdom? Very pretty plants, Roberta.
Yes, she is! Whenever I have a tough question I know she will come to the rescue! ; )
Glad to help! :-) I've still got a lot to learn myself though!
And she's the QUEEN of blog and journal questions!!!
rob, I really like caladiums; I suckered into a co-op last year thinking I'd dig them for the winter so they'd survive. NOT! I totally love Ginger...something...can't remember the name. It's broken my heart twice, so it's off my list....sigh.....
I always let things break my heart 3 times before I cross them off my list! I figure the first time it dies it was probably some weird coincidence, the 2nd time it dies it was probably some other weird coincidence, but then the third time it dies I have to conclude that it just does not like our climate (of course none of the three deaths are my fault! LOL)
Lol!
