Well chickens are easy prey and I have lost a few and it was very traumatizing. I felt so guilty. But the rewards are worth the sacrifice. We all just learn as we go. Dont get deterred if its something youd really like to do.
City Chickens
roserairie,
Not to promote another website, but have you checked out backyardchickens.com? They were the first site I checked out for coop design ideas. You should also check out our, Tour de Coop thread. There are a couple of chicken tractor ideas in there. I think those are the best solutions for small spaces, but still giving them fresh ground to dig in. I also like the idea because you could potentially move them into off season gardening boxes, you sound like you are a gardener. They are great tillers, plus the added fertilizer! ;-)
Thanks, Lazy_Ladies...it is horrible to lose them and I feel very guilty. But like meg_e says--you just have to pick yourself up, set your jaw and move on, because they are worth it. I also try to make their lives as wonderful as possible for whatever time they have--and that helps some.
Oh yah, and talk to Claire about her eglu... i think that's what its called...
Thanks I'll have to check out that website. I know this is something I'm going to just love.
