FL visitor looking for San Diego Gdn Ctr with unusual plants

Clermont, FL(Zone 9b)

I'm visiting from Central Florida and hoping to find a few landscape plants to bring back home with me. The Florida Nurseries tend to carry the same old stuff, but out here you have a bunch of Australian plants like grevilleas that you cannot find in Florida. Can any locals direct me to a couple of San Diego nurseries or garden centers that have a good selection of unusual landscape plants. One that carries smaller size plants like gallon size containers would be preferred.

I'm staying in the Mission Bay area.

Thanks!

I don't know how long you're here for, or how far you can get from there.....but.....seeing as nobody else has responded to this....I like Mission Hills Nursery in San Diego, Plant World and Tropic World up in Escondido, Anderson's San Diego, Buena Creek Gardens in San Marcos and I'm told that Bentley Tropicals here in Fallbrook where I live has good stuff also, though at Bentley you kinda have to know what you're looking for and be able to sort of help yourself. Green Thumb in San Marcos also.......

I would second on Anderson's SD, Mission Hills, and I would at "The plant man" in Old Town. If you're visiting you're probably end up touring Old Town anyway, so ask where the "plant man" is; it's a tiny nursery and they sell all kinds of crazy cacti and succulents.
Have fun!

Plant World and Tropic World are good bets.

If you don't mind going a little farther afield, you could head up to Vista and visit Kartuz--all their plants are in tiny pots so they're very transportable. I'd definitely call first before you go there--they are open to the public to some extent but I'm not sure that they have regular hours so it's probably better for them to know you're coming so you can be sure someone will be there. They don't have the Australian stuff like Grevilleas, but they have a lot of unusual tropical and semi-tropical things. I'm not sure that things like Grevilleas and other Aussie plants would do well in Florida anyway, I suspect they're happier in dry climates (when you can't find things at local nurseries, sometimes there's a good reason! LOL)

Thanks everyone! I ventured out and ended up with about 25 plants to bring back. Tuesday is not a good day to plant shop because a couple of the nurseries I wanted to visit like Kartuz are closed on Tuesdays. It was good I only had one day to plant shop because I know I already maxed out my luggage.

I was able to trim the roots of a few plants at one nursery, but the rest I'll do in the morning before I pack them up.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

Guess you'll just have to come back to hit the other nurseries, huh?
