I felt something crawling on my thumb last night and then I noticed this extremely tiny insect. As it was night, I had to ask the utmost from my camera to take a reasonable picture. The result is poor but perhaps it might be possible to find out its family or even the genus?
You can have an idea of its tininess (max.1mm!) by the visibility of the fibres of the ordinary white printing sheet I had placed it on..
CLOSED: 1 mm sized bug, what could it be?
This is a thrips (order Thysanoptera) - see http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/67460595 for an image. The image is not clear enough to be certain of more precise identification; the abdomen appears to have a tubular extension, if this is not an artifact, that would place it in the family Phloeothripidae, which includes both predaceous and plant-feeding species.
Thanks Suunto!
It does have a tubular extension so I can give it at least a family name :)
Interesting to see the pictures in the link you gave, there was even a creepy one covered with mites, unbelievable as the thrips themselves are already so tiny!! eekkk..
